Party up moodge, it’s the June 2023 Vinyl Challenge!!

Day 10
Isolar I and II were the names of the StationToStation and Stage tours. It also is an anagram of sailor, which was Bowie’s screen name on BowieNet.

The Notwist – Superheroes, Ghostvillains + Stuff

The Needles & Grooves AOTM guess threads are some of my absolute favourite puzzles. It took a couple of months being a member of the site before I really dipped my toes in and I haven't looked back since. Nearly a year ago @Hemotep ran the guess thread for Vol. 38 (August 2022) and this was the solution to his puzzle.

Day 11
The Jean Genie – is a song about about Iggy Pop. Like many of the best Bowie songs it’s a ‘portrait’ of someone who simply caught his eye

"The Living Bubba" is about Gregory Dean Smalley and is a DBT all-timer.
Patterson Hood wrote a beautiful and in-depth piece about it for Paste magazine 20 years ago:

Play the worst song by your favourite artiist

My favorite artist has absolutely zero fear and will go down any musical path he feels like. His catalogue is so diverse you could ask 50 people 'What's his worst song?' and you'd possibly get 50 different answers. That subjectively translates into there is no worst song or there are a bunch of worst songs.

I never really connected with the orchestral aspect of this record...

Neil Young - Storytone

Day 12
Kabbalah - David (in)famously dabbled in the occult in the 70s (don’t do drugs kids).
Play something mystical or related to the occult

He's actually a church going son of a preacher, but Vincent Furnier's on stage persona, Alice, has often been considered to be involved in the occult. I recall reading that the name "Alice Cooper" came from a Ouija board. Not sure if there is truth in that, but it's a good story.

One of my favorite backstage photos of all-time - Alice Cooper and Opium Santa Claus playing doubles ping pong...

Picking a favorite artist is as tough as picking a worst song for me. But this is a band I've loved for a very long time, so I went with it.

Our Lady Peace - Healthy in Paranoid Times

This album, and the next three, were all kind of meh for me, although several songs on each have grown on me over the years. But the opening track, Angels/Losing/Sleep is one of my least favorite songs they've done.

Damn today was tough. I could go the easy route and pretty much play any song pre-Space Oddity by Bowie but that was too easy. So I picked The Jam (definitely in my top 5 bands).

The Jam - This is the Modern World.
In my opinion the weakest album by Weller and crew, even though it has 2 classic Jam songs: Standards and the title track. It also has 3 real clunkers: London Traffic, The Combine and Don't Tell Them Your Sane. All three feel like Weller was trying to write a Pete Townsend song from 1966. This album certainly proves the old adage, bands have forever to write their first record and 6 months to create their 2nd.
