Party up moodge, it’s the June 2023 Vinyl Challenge!!

Day 14: Mime - Play a not so great career choice

Fucked Up - The Chemistry Of Common Life
IMG_3838.jpeg
When you’re initially forming a Hardcore band you just wanna get noticed and Fucked Up will certainly turn heads when displayed on a DIY poster or zine article. You start running into issues from a career standpoint when you get a little bigger and your bands name started getting censored on venue marquees or during television performances or YouTube videos…

Day 11
The Jean Genie – is a song about about Iggy Pop. Like many of the best Bowie songs it’s a ‘portrait’ of someone who simply caught his eye
Play a song about another musician

The Roots - Game Theory

Making a little chain with this one- The final track, "Can't Stop This," uses a track from Donuts as its base to create a track about the influence and loss of J Dilla.

Day 16: June 16, 1962 - Play a “first”

Beck - Mutations
IMG_3840.jpeg

I am gonna follow the trend and go with my first concert. The first concert I remember wanting to go to but was unable was in 7th grade to a Boys II Men show with Brandy as the opening act. My first concert I was supposed to go to but got grounded due to getting a D on my progress report in Algebra in October of 96 was Smashing Pumpkins during their Infinite Sadness tour (I still have the untorn ticket). The first show I was actually able to attend was Beck on his Odelay tour in April of 1997. He didn’t play any songs from Mutations during the show but he did play an early version of “Debra” that would eventually appear on Midnight Vultures. It was an excellent high energy first concert experience.

Day 17: Oh! You Pretty Things - Play something “live”

My Morning Jacket - MMJ Live Vol 3: Bonnaroo 2004
IMG_3841.jpeg
I actually ran out and picked this up last week on its release date but was busy all week and hadn’t gotten a chance to spin it. I almost spun it yesterday just because but then I figured I might as well save it for today’s prompt. It’s an amazing set, I have it cranked up to 11 waiting for the skies to open up and start pouring here.

Day 17
Oh! You Pretty Things had its first live performance at Glastonbury Fayre on June 23 1971.
Play something “live”

First concert was the Jackson 5 Victory Tour, 1984 at Dodger Stadium. I don't have any Jackson 5 so I'll go with another artist I saw at Dodger Stadium on the Invisible Touch tour.

Waylon Jennings - Dreaming My Dream

“At You Sure Hank Done It This Way”

This is such a great song. Seems very......familiar.

Now hear me out...

Replace Waylon with Lou Reed.

Add a little distortion to that pedal steel.

Voila!

This is a two chord Velvet Underground dirge a la 'Waiting For My Man'.

Waylon knew what's up.

Aztec Camera - Backwards And Forwards ep (recorded live at the Dominion Theatre, London on Oct. 16 1984). Includes the amazing cover of Jump

This version of 'Jump' is one of my favorite covers of all time.

I'm saddened and disappointed the truncated version without the Roddy Frame fireworks was posted.

I know @jamieanderson1968. He wouldn't have done this of his own free will. Kidnappers - where is @jamieanderson1968 and what have you done with him?

This is the one you want...

Thanks @Yer Ol' Uncle D . My neighbours had stunned me by playing Europe really loud. That is the superior version of Jump

David Bowie - BBC Radio Theatre London

I bought the Brilliant Adventures box a few months ago when there was that insane deal on them, but let the kids give it to me for Fathers’ Day today. They were disappointed to learn the Labyrinth soundtrack was not part of this era (now one of the few albums of his that I still don’t have). My wife is aware that today will be a predominantly Bowie day as I work through this box. Starting off with this one
