Political Discussion

Do you not have powers delegated to ministers under primary legislation who have then have ability to sign off on secondary legislation that is a bit more specialist and specific?
This would have required foresight to do this. It used to be Congress passed a law and the agencies that made sense took care of it. However, in an effort, I guess, to make things more efficient, laws have to be more exact to be enforced now?

Not to make things more efficient, but rather so that it's easier to cut back regulations. Conservatives and corporations hate regulations as it impacts there bottom line.

Not more efficient, the argument is that it’s “unfair” to have unelected officials interpreting and enforcing laws beyond what was actually written into law and elected officials are shirking responsibility by not defining these rules more exact. So now when a law is broadly written, a panel of Judges who are definitely not doctors, experts, or scientists will have to decide how the broadly written law should be applied on a case by case basis or just toss out the law whole cloth and require Congress to pass a more specific law instead.

All of which will be exploited by Billionaires and Corporations to fuck over US citizens and the world at large in the name of greed.

But that’s mad. The whole point of delegated legislation is that congressmen generally don’t have the knowledge or skills to pass exact legislation in specialist areas. They have the ability to set the direction or the limits. Ministers acting under the advise of specialists in their departments have the ability to actually write specifics. You always have the ability to challenge constitutionality in court if the minister or agency oversteps its delegated powers.

This fear of experts and expertise is really something.

The Republican Party is fucking insane.

There's going to be a lot of sanitization of this administration in the coming weeks, but I genuinely have nothing but contempt for these people.

we will soon have someone who is an anti-vaxer in charge of of Health and Human Services and an oil man in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency. These are weird times.
Yup, and Trump is expected to sign that executive order again that gives him the ability to fire full time government workers, the experts in the subject mater who work at government agencies like the EPA, and replace them with political appointees.

So our future is looking to have their agencies stacked with people who align with Trump's / Republican's viewpoints rather than experts in the subject matter.

For the most part his appointees are better suited to dismantle these agencies as opposed to reimagining them.

They’ll soon be in for a rude awakening when they realise they’ve sacked everyone with the knowledge and skills to enact their awful policies…
but that’s always been the goal. One of the major tenets of the GOP is that the government doesn’t work so when they gain power they do their best to dismantle from within. Then when everything goes to shit they can say, “see, the government doesn’t work”. It’s part of their grift.
