Political Discussion

That's cool, but as long as my dad keeps listening to conservative radio all day long, I don't see it ever changing.

I honestly don't care about his political views. The only part that ruined our relationship is that he can't not talk about it. He is just so angry and worked up about it all the time, even though none of it affects him, he can't help but rant about it when we're together. I don't mind spending time with him otherwise, but I dread that happening every time, so I don't want to deal with it.
Yeah, I have read a few think pieces about how Conservative Talk Radio/Fox News has impacted that large swath of that generation, particularly white middle class males, they are angry for a multitude of reasons and these media outlets give them an outlet to rage. I think a lot of times they have a tough time understanding why everyone is not as pissed as they are.

If I don't vote for Biden I'm a racist? What a narrow view.

Nope. Not what I said but if you want to interpret that way feel free to.

If you chose to be ignorant about how voting for Trump supports racist ideology and not voting for Biden tacitly accepts that racially motivated inequity that's also your prerogative.

You don't need to agree with me and I'm not trying to convince you.

Let me also state that I'm not interested in whatever the ensuing arguments there might be about the two party system, thinking for yourself, moral imperative to do what the individual thinks is right, sheeple, or any way that you may want to distract from the fact that throwing away your vote on Biden (if that's how you want to feel about it) is better than the alternative of 4 more years of open empowering of white supremacist ideals.

President Donald Trump is set to announce an executive order against social media companies on Thursday, days after Twitter called two of his tweets "potentially misleading."
The draft executive order being prepared by the Trump administration tests the boundaries of the White House's authority. In a long-shot legal bid, it seeks to curtail the power of large social media platforms by reinterpreting a critical 1996 law that shields websites and tech companies from lawsuits.
It marks a dramatic escalation by Trump in his war with tech companies as they struggle with the growing problem of misinformation on social media. The President has regularly accused sites of censoring conservative speech.

btw
this is the same guy who sued the state to revert the name of the lake Bde Maka Ska back to Lake Calhoun. Calhoun was a confederate racist... the group tried to claim it was name after another Calhoun - it wasn't - not that it mattered because the name change was about calling the Lake by the Dakota name.

Why do people automatically call 911 to solve a problem? I mean shouldn't there be other ways to verify if these guys are allowed to have access to the gym. Maybe ask them for a business card or institute a gym ID for the whole building.

The gym does require ID cards from employees to access the gym. The ID Card has RFID and allows them through security. They have to be both authorized to enter the building and the gym on their ID / Badge to be able to access the gym. They wouldn't be able to access the gym otherwise like they said.

They refused to show ID, because why should they have too just because they are black? Asking them to prove they belong there is not this guys job. But rather building / office security.

Because some white people believe it is their right, the heritage, their privilege to do so.
Because some white people inherently fear being in the same space as black bodies.
Because some white people understand the threat the police represent to black bodies and they want to leverage that threat to continue to keep their white bodies in a privileged position.
Because they are racist

As I'm sure you know, none of this is about logic, facts, or being reasonable.

You know, I wonder how the Central Park woman scenario would have played out if a police officer did show up................and he was black ;)

Y - maybe differently maybe not. i'm not comfortable trying to speak about officers of color but i do think that the indoctrination into the cult can be a strong one.

Maybe to your broader point/idea. I do think that municipalities that require their police force to live in the communities they are supposed to serve are at least attempting to build empathy into an institution that tends to lack it.
