Political Discussion

Because they think they have a legitimate chance of winning this in court. With the correct pawns in place I believe they may as well. I don’t think it right, I think it’s bullshit, and I think the man can burn in hell.... but it appears, that our legal system is fundamentally fucked and not just from a street drugs vs. white collar crime level.
Winning what in court though? Still waiting for some evidence.

They won't win anything in court. They have no evidence, and no matter what way a judge leans, they still require evidence. All they're doing is muddying the waters and sowing confusion and non confidence in the process. They know this is going no where. It's just all being done so that is easier down the line to pull this shit again and have it actually work.

Yeah as much as I like to err on the side of caution I just don’t see how they’d get away with removing votes or disenfranchising millions of voters who voted by Mail. There’s still no evidence and public officials say there’s no evidence.

this has no legs at all.

I want nothing more than for you to be right. And I’m really hoping it’s my internal pessimism that is speaking louder than my observations of this stupid inverted turtle getting away with so much already. They’ll find (read: plant) “evidence” and then they’ll have the pawns in place. I really hope I’m wrong.

You can just take a step and look around. The non-political junkies the people who barely pay attention to any of this they have all accepted Biden won the election and now is President-Elect. Biden is playing the part. Trump hasn’t done anything remotely Presidential in over a week. This is a fait accompli. Everyone knows The Trump camp is gonna run out of options eventually, of course they are gonna kick and scream for as long as they can. None of this will change anything. Biden is the President-Elect and at Noon on January 20, 2021 he’ll be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

The problem with this is they are gonna have a really muddled message. The election is invalid due to fraud but vote for us as a check on President Biden. If the election is invalid then the GOP already has the majority and if they are gonna check Biden, well then he must be President. The mental knots they are gonna tie is gonna be ridiculous and Ossoff and Warnock are just gonna keep talking about $15 minimum wage an healthcare.

speaking of, I was full on doom scrolling after the AP headline about Barr.

tl;dr - he is saying the DOJ will investigate any irregularities they could find. Twitter was (and probably rightly, a little bit) freaking out about it being a Coup.

Literally zero. Zero. No evidence at all about Fraud is being found. Unless there’s some kind of planted evidence nothing will happen. Anytime there’s been any kind of “evidence” like the laptop, the video of ballots burning on printer paper, it’s been swiftly denied and shut down.

It’s all just stroking fears.

Does Barr have the authority to push a case directly through to the SCOTUS or does that have to come from the state courts?

No. SCOTUS is almost never the court of first instance. It would have to be an appeal from a state’s highest court OR federal court of appeals. I’m with the others in this thread who think there is no legal avenue to contest this election. All Trump is really doing is trying to win over the “court of public opinion,” i.e. deplorables.

About the Supreme Court

The Court's Jurisdiction
Article III, Section II of the Constitution establishes the jurisdiction (legal ability to hear a case) of the Supreme Court. The Court has original jurisdiction (a case is tried before the Court) over certain cases, e.g., suits between two or more states and/or cases involving ambassadors and other public ministers.

The Court has appellate jurisdiction (the Court can hear the case on appeal) on almost any other case that involves a point of constitutional and/or federal law. Some examples include cases to which the United States is a party, cases involving Treaties, and cases involving ships on the high seas and navigable waterways (admiralty cases).

Things are looking bad for public transportations future in MA.

The MBTA is about to have mass layoffs.

Subway frequency is going to be reduced by 45%, the Green Line E branch is going to be Truncated at Brigham Circle.

In other words, this means it will no longer service Brookline. Maintaining service only to Boston.

25 Bus roots are being eliminated and frequencies are also being cut.

There will be no commuter ferry service in 2021 or weekend commuter rail service. Commuter rail will also have reduced frequencies on some lines and all lines service will be cut at 9pm for weekday service.

The part that really worries me is the MBTA considers all these cuts to be "Permanent". Meaning that these services will not be restored unless they both have the money and ridership in the future.

A Bailout package for public transportation will be needed in addition to ridership returning to get things back where they were.

Basically, my takeaway is we are more divided than ever. While the democrats the popular vote republicans always win in the number of states that vote for them.

This means that the Republican party is now always primed to have the advantage to control the senate. Red states are almost ensured to vote GOP when it comes to the senate. Any state that went to Trump will go to the GOP in a senate race. The only flipped seats were the in states that Biden won.

This worries me. This could lean to the GOP being able to obstruct any policies and court nominations for the foreseeable future.
