Political Discussion

Never in the history of elections had there ever been fraud uncovered that would erase a lead of tens of thousands of votes. Now because Trump lost he thinks it's a foregone conclusion?

I'm not worried about voter fraud being uncovered but I am worried about the GOP using it as a narrative to pull some shady shit like have GOP legislatures choose electors. The fact that so many in his party are indulging his little fantasy is horrifying.

SoS has literally nothing to do with the election results. Pompeo gonna Pompeo.

I have been tired of this shit since the Whitewater investigations. I think our country is very close to civil war personally. I am just tired of people believing the truth is whatever you make it. Just saddens me that this what I brought our kids into, maybe it will get better but at this point I am not optimistic.

That's just always been his style- surreal and a little grotesque. He only recently started posting some new comics this month after something like 25 years since the comic strip ended.

I have loved it since I was a kid... when it comes to comic strips, only Calvin and Hobbes holds a higher place in my heart.
Funny you should mention Calvin & Hobbes, I started reading a few pages of strips a night to help me calm down before bed with all this politics stress. Just the best.

This article helps me feel better.

I guess it's because I'm surrounded by Trumpers who are so excited about all of this, I'm basically on an island most of my days for most of my week. Anything I can come up with to debate with them is shot down because my sources are "liberal." So it actually makes me start to question why I think I'm so correct, when 30 people at my work are SO confident that this thing is going to flip to Trump. It's making for tough work days because I'm such a loner here and I know they talk about me being a 'pedophile supporter.'

I'd quit, but I've been here longer than any of these fools...and I can't really quit anyway...not without a great plan in place.
Imagine how tough it’s gonna be for them after Biden is sworn in. I am not saying you should revel in their future misery but...

This reminds me of a conversation on the train on my way into work one day in 2018.

A political science professor was having a discussion with another rider. Our seats were facing each other with a table in between. I was somewhat involved in the conversation from time to time as they asked me my opinion.

But anyways, the political science professor was talking about how divided we have come as a nation. He does not see us heading to a civil war. Though he does think that in the time period of 1 to 2 generations we will start to see states succeed from the united states. He does not see the United States and individual states going to war with each other. But rather a Brexit like situation.

Of course you have your Republicans saying the United States will never allow this to happen, and we will go to war with any state that tries this and squash it down immediately.

The right is obstructing all the policy changes needed for more populous areas to to be sustainable. The right also has the upper hand because our system is rigged in their favor. Giving states with smaller population more say, not to mention all the Gerrymandering.

Economically, our country is not going to work for blue states like CA, NY and so on in the long term. And if we don't come together as a country and address the issues and remain as divided as ever something has to give. And that very well could be the succession of states from the United States so they can get policies more aligned with what they need and fix the issues.

There used to be standards, but that got removed during the Regan administration.
That’s a shame. I think media outlets like Fox would seriously have to change their tune if there was one.
For example, take a look at this article from back in 2017 when Fox was broadcast in U.K. (it’s not anymore).

Also "six sigma lean" is very much in practice by the large holding companies.

Earlier this year they mandated each company they hold cut 10% of salaries across their company. And of course 10% of total salaries amount to more than 25% of staff in the layoff. My company, had just Trimmed the fat as required by our holding company after we lost a client a couple months before. We were growing and in need to hiring because we were stretched too thin. Yet, the COVID 10% reduction to keep our holding company strong was mandated. And instead of getting help back we had to cut more and are still in a hiring freeze through the end of the year. It's been "do more with less" mode ever since and we all are facing burnout. It's a high stress long hour environment now.

And I'm afraid that now that they know they can run on less, will they ever hire back as many people as we had before?
I'm a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. I cannot tell you how many times I was brought into a company to do exactly this. Once you go through the whole process efficiency exercises, oftentimes it follows logically that certain positions either need to be re-worked and re-assigned or eliminated altogether. :(

Counterpoint: secession is unlikely and would not be peaceful.
