Political Discussion

There is a lot of money in MA. Lots of very affluent people. While I totally agree with you as a whole, o the North Shore of MA and Cape regions the policy makers are in fact millionaires. In these areas you have the very affluent people who come from old money. A lot of these people are very involved in politics.

MA as the same issue where most of the state income and sales taxes get distributed to the rural parts of the state. We also have policy makers who used the MBTA public transportation operational budget to pay for the big dig (highways and tunnels). 30% of the MBTA's operational budget goes for paying back the big dig for the next 50 years.

They robbed Peter (public transportation) to pay for the big dig. So not only is it critically underfunded, 30% of is budget has been taken away.

Another unique issue we have is our highway system in the North East sucks. It's not capable of handling the car traffic and there is no room to expand capacity. Boston has some of the worst traffic in the world trying to drive into the city. There is no longer rush hour traffic, every hour of the day is rush hour traffic and gridlock. Society needs to move away from relying on cars to get into the city.

Several more GOP controlled states are ending expanded unemployment early with the latest being Georgia.

All stating that the expanded unemployment deincenticices people from going back to work. However, the biggest reason for people not going back to work is childcare. Women / mothers have been far less likely to go back to work since the pandemic started and have chosen that they must stay home and take care of their kids because childcare can not be found or is not affordable. Many daycare centers shut down during the pandemic and many people stopped doing daycare out of their homes. Even today, there are far fewer options for childcare than pre-pandemic and often times the prices are too much for families living near poverty to afford.

1.3 Million Americans will be losing their unemployment insurance after this week due to Republican controlled states ending expanded unemployment benefits early according to CNN.
