Political Discussion

The "Great Replacement Theory" was the motivation for the Buffalo shooting.

It's something Tucker Carlson has been pushing on air for a few years now apparently but I'm just hearing about it. And it seems like the theory is blowing up on the far right right now.

Basically, the theory says Democrats are for illegal immigration because each illegal immigrant will have 2 to 3 children who will vote democrat as I understand it. The democrats are trying to pad our nation with illegals to secure their vote in future elections and tip power back their way because they can't win votes any other way but by fraud. And this is the grand scheme to replace republicans with democrats.

Is this craziness new to anyone else? And it just blows my mind that conspiracy theories like this lead to mass shootings.
It's an internationally relatively wide spread conspiracy theory in the far right and neo Nazi circles. In Europe it' s normally seen as a conspiracy by rich elitist ( or " the jews") to replace Christian with Muslim populations for whatever bizarre reasons. Hungarian president Orban seems to also advicate similar theories

This ignores some basic demographic principles which are summed up in the truism that republicans would never win in fair elections. Also, nobody in America wants to do all the menial shit the Mexican immigrants are doing. it's complete face spiting, nose cutting bullshit.

It is but it’s easier for the cynical self enriching political classes to sell that hate to the post industrial communities that they’ve effectively ignored for a generation rather than, you know, trying to fix the problems created by de-industrialisation.

How else are they going to get elected?? Goodness knows that they don’t actually want to do anything. That would be against their corporate donor’s interest.

Yep. I’m guessing we’re in agreement on the type of radical campaign finance reform that could save democracy and so will never happen.

Trump's overall average approval rating while in office was 41%. Joe Bidden's average is currently sitting at 39%.

Americans blame him for high gas prices at the pump, inflation and completely ignoring post industrial America where working class Americans are hurting.

There is also the fact that he's been ineffective at passing any legislation through the senate thanks largely to Joe Manchin.

Everything is indicating that the midterm elections are going to be more brutal for Democrats than Obama's 2010 midterm where democrats lost the majority in both the House and Senate by large numbers.

The Supreme Court said Monday that state prisoners may not present new evidence in federal court in support of a claim that their post-conviction counsel in state court was ineffective in violation of the Constitution.

In other words, it just became harder for innocent people on death row to challenge their conviction.

The courts opinion was such cases are essentially waste the time of the courts and disrespect previous courts rulings.

The people ruling us have no compassion.

The baby formula shortage was absolutely a government failure that they could have avoided.

Asked about the sluggish federal response to a crisis regulators were informed about as far back as October, Buttigieg absolved the Biden administration through a little bit of neoliberal sleight of hand.

“Let’s be very clear,” he said. “This is a capitalist country. The government does not make baby formula, nor should it. Companies make formula.”

So it’s not the governments job to prop up the market to help poor people but it is the governments job to come in and clean up a mess created by a company to help its rich shareholders. Got it.

He can fuck right off with that bullshit. Tired of these billionaires and their "I care about the common person" lies. I literally had to have family members around the country help us find our specific formula due to the shortage. I can only imagine people without family members in other places that can help them. It's really sad as hell and fuck him again just because. Babies died. People are still desperate for formula.

Yea but isn’t the government the largest buyer of baby formula through the WIC program? Such a cop out. They could easily tighten the screw on these companies but 🤷‍♂️

Mayo Pete is absolutely a tool -- which is why (IMO) he was used as the mouthpiece here, and not someone likeable, like Psaki. Biden's admin has a no-win situation: if they step in and help it's "look at the big government that democrats want" and if they don't it's "look at the do-nothings". To be clear: they should have sided with fucking doing anything other than shrugging and saying 'figure it out, free market, invisible hand LOL'. I really hate how ineffective the US political system is (for everyone that can't afford to make it work in their favor)

Rick Scott... This guy is a piece of work. And Trump voiced his opinion that Rick Scott should be the next majority leader of the senate.

Mitch McConnell has told him to shut up multiple times in the last few weeks and stated that Rick Scott doesn't representante the Republican party. The only thing is, he does. He's just being transparent about their agenda and not lying about it.

Rick Scott's tax bill would raise taxes for the lower 40% of Americans by $1,000. Under his bill everyone would need to contribute their piece of the pie. This means those with no income, such as retired people, people on disability, stay at home moms, basically anyone not participating in the workforce and except from paying taxes currently would need to "contribute their piece of the pie".

Rick Scott said in a recent interview that he's appalled by Americas low workforce participation rate and that we need to motivate people to work. America's workforce participation rate is sitting at 61.9% as of December 2021. The highest the workforce participation rate has ever been in American history was 67.3% in April of 2000. The current unemployment rate is a fraction of percent different from pre-pandemic. Which is impressive because it took 10 years to recover from the recession.

The tax plan also would further cut taxes for the rich and gut Social Security and Medicare.

Oh, and yeah, that's right. Rick Scott was the CEO of a hospital system that committed the largest Medicare fraud to date and was fined more than a billion. He resigned and became a senator. Sounds about right...
