Political Discussion

But wouldn't redefining that one word go up along a long standing tradition deeply rooted in American History?

Anyone else see the hypocrisy?
"...state lawmakers could, in theory, have new power to ignore voters and pick presidents."

Though extreme, this could surely happen. And it's terrifying to think of..

It's always gotta be my home state. Our legislature is full of them scummiest conservative fucks imaginable and it's infuriating. The NC Supreme Court is basically the only thing keeping the GOP from not being able to gerrymander the districts to a 14-0 congressional seat advantage.

They also tossed out a voter identification law they was as the court described racist with a pinpoint accuracy in its disenfranchisement of people of color and people of limited means.

I have no doubt the the Supreme Court sponsored by the Federalist Society will side with these assholes and then.. who the hell knows. I'm still waiting for this country to finally say enough is enough with minority rule.

So letā€™s see how this night ends for Boris Johnson, but looks like he has no interest in resigning

We do the dems always cater the republicans. The republicans already are on a mission to stack the courts, so why do we help them to play nice.

Looks like Boris is giving up

Yeah he was slaughtered in PMQs yesterday and even Zahawi went public this morning. His last vainglorious play, which he supposedly was considering yesterday, would be to call a General Election but if the Queen was to refuse on grounds that there is a formable government heā€™d be in an unprecedented position.

My favourite quip from PMQs yesterday was ā€œthe sinking ship is deserting the ratā€

Reading through CNNā€™s summary of Borisā€™ scandals, itā€™s somehow simultaneously encouraging that this is still ā€œall it takesā€ to force a resignation elsewhere, and dismaying that this list feels almost quaint right now when reading it from here. Likeā€¦heā€™s leaving without even trying to establish any fascist cults based on bonkers conspiracy theories in an effort to stage a coup and subvert the legitimacy of the entire government? Thatā€™s not that bad.

He did somehow manage to be convicted in office of a criminal offence that was placed on the statute books by himself, which is pretty comical.

Also different political systems in that heā€™s the leader of parliament rather than a separate branch of government so itā€™s much easier to force out that it would be to impeach a president. Also Britain isnā€™t near as polarised and, regardless of morals, the members of his party forcing him out are acting mainly because they are scared of loosing their own seats if this drags on much longer.
