More evidence that billionaires shouldn't be allowed to exist:

The Executive Summary says that they concluded that quite apart from the 3,300 or so billionaires, the wealthiest one percent in the world emit twice as much carbon dioxide as the bottom 50%. The top one percent, about 80 million people, are a big carbon problem, because if they go on as they are, their CO2 emissions alone will be 30 times larger than is compatible with keeping the heating of the earth to only 1.5°C above preindustrial times– the goal of the 2015 Paris Climate agreement.

Zeroing in on 150 billionaires in the sample, a tiny proportion of the top one percent numerically but a significant proportion of the latter’s wealth holdings, the study found that together they had a stake in 183 companies that is valued at $2.4 trillion.

If you calculate how many greenhouse gases are emitted by these 183 companies and look at how much of them is owned by each billionaire, you come to the conclusion that each of these fabulously wealthy persons is responsible for the emission of 3 million tons of carbon dioxide each year. An average person is estimated to emit 2.7 tons of CO2 every year. Thus, a million times more.

How have we not stormed the Bastile. Because they really are saying “let them eat cake” to those in poverty right now.

And the centre wonders why there has been a shift to the hard right. SMH.

Heard that this morning, lol

While I'm not completely thrilled with some of the results, I'm finding an odd comfort and hope in the lack of a red wave :)

My hope is that someone that has Trumps ear sees this and tells him not to run again.

It is nice to see Boebert is losing.

The Gov race is too close to call here on Oregon...which isn't all that surprising.

We did pass some gun control.

Well we all knew that's why he's been putting it off, to see if the deck is stacked in his favor. While I would like to see the implosion that would come from the Trump/Desantis circus as @ayayrawn mentioned, i think I'd be just fine without Trump anywhere near being the Red Runner.

It's not only a fun circus, but a strategy. I think Desantis gets too clean a waltz to the nomination and probably win if Trump isn't there to crawl up his ass and make his life hard.

I felt real conflicted on the gun control measure. Any increase in restriction is good, but it felt like too little, and I’m extremely wary about the fact that the police would be in charge of restricting and enforcing those measures. “Let the cops decide who can or can’t have guns” feels like bullshit.

So it’s looking like the Senate is going to either be 51/49 (either party), or 50/50 again….lovely. 2 more years of little to nothing being accomplished.

Much to unpack this midterm but I am slightly more optimistic that Gen Z will save us. Regardless of how they voted, seeing the engagement is promising and hopefully this let’s them realize they can actually shape the future.

Several things have me head scratching this season, but THIS….lol…wut the actual F Oregon??

How this is even considered ok by ANYONES standards?? 😵‍💫

Per the measure, plenty of states still have this socked away in their constitutions; they cited three different states which only recently removed it.

Coulda used some changes that actually affect present-day life here, but there was a lot of “let’s put language in the constitution.” We had a measure to declare affordable healthcare a human right in Oregon. Nothing about what that would consist of or how to implement it, but good for us I guess? It probably has to do with that fact that if you proposed a free walk-in clinic, people would start asking “who’s gonna pay for that?”
