Political Discussion

Ok, this is crazy but I have the Democrats winning at least 216 seats with what's remaining. And there are a couple more toss-ups they could still grab... they may end up squeaking by in the House too. If not, the Republican majority is going to be razor thin. Either way, any 1-2 congressperson on either side is going to have tons of power.

It's funny, but also really not. This entire checkmark fiasco is throwing a lot of doubt in reality, and that's not a good thing. At all.

Anyway, seems like Elon already scrapped the checkmark thing (for now).

With everything going on (layoffs, forcing everyone back to in-office, actually saying the company could go bankrupt), it almost looks like he's trying to drive the company into the ground on purpose. Though I fail to see the advantage given the price he paid. But then was it his money? Maybe there's a way for him to still make a buck and pass the fall on his lenders? I'm not sure what the end goal is here. Revenge with a way to make a small amount in the meantime? Or is he really trying to reshape the company?

Who knows. The dude is a narcissist with a sprinkling of Asperger's. Not trying to shame anyone struggling with these personality disorders, but maybe they shouldn't be in charge of companies this large...

A large part of me hopes this will help delegitimize social media as a source of truth or news. But I think it’ll just shamble on.

As for why he bought it? I’m fairly sure he was trying to devalue Tesla stock only to buy it back, twitter called he bluff, and he’s stuck with a $44 bil boondoggle. Similarly, I’m hoping this makes people realize he’s dumb as shit and just knows how to turn money into more money.

Was talking to friend’s about this and I wonder if a certain oil country that helped fund him is using this as an opportunity to silence dissidents. Would sadly be convenient for them if the platform was shutdown or fractured enough that much of its current real-time news capability was gutted.

Christopher Bouzy is worth a follow on Twitter. He’s been fairly accurate with his predictions.

That's who I've been following as well. He's got the DEM's getting 219 seats and control of the house.

I said I counted 216 minimum above, but you can make that 217 now. I'm not doing Bouzy's math with leftover votes though. Control of the house by the Republicans is not guaranteed at all. Either way, this is going to finish with one or the other party with a 1-2 seat win.

His real gig is about the detection of fake things on Twitter so he's been talking a lot about the blue check fiasco and the Eli Lilly thing from yesterday. Their stock plummeted following that fake tweet and other pharmaceutical stocks went with it.

Just to bring back the conversation above... it's all really funny that tweet but there are serious damages that were caused by it. I don't think the author of the tweet is at risk, but given that Twitter handed out the blue checks and seemingly didn't verify anything, I think they may have opened themselves up to some serious lawsuits from companies with deep pockets.

It's truly amazing how fast and hard Twitter is tanking.

Capitalism is unsustainable and the sooner the neolibs and neocons that run everything figure this out and start shifting our economy towards cooperation based models that help reverse climate change and supports people with what they need while stepping away from consumption based economies, the better things will get for everyone.

Whispers *most people that are currently in charge of everything are narcissists.*

Tumblr trolls Twitter by offering two pointless blue check marks for $7.99

I saw someone mention this on the bird site, apparently it stacks too so for every $7.99 you give Tumblr you get another two checks! :ROFLMAO:
