Political Discussion

Montana had a “Born Alive“ bill on their ballot that would have forced providers to perform life-saving measures on any infant born alive, viable or not, with punishment of jail time and a huge fine to anyone who didn’t provide that care. A bunch of healthcare providers across the state signed a letter stating our HUGE concerns about this bill. The Bozeman newspaper ran this letter in a full page, which was very cool. Anyways, being in a red state, I thought it was a foregone conclusion that this bill would pass and we would lose providers. Much to my surprise, Montana voted NO 52/48, even though every senator/house rep elected was Republican. I am very proud that I was one of the co-signers on this letter, and have to think that our campaign against it was instrumental in getting it shot down.

I’m 4th column, 3rd down

Ok, just looking at the current counts and what's outstanding, I have the DEM's at 218 now, with possibly another flip. They're going to hold the house by a squeaker. Are the media outlets talking about this? It seems like the conversation was about how there was no red wave but that the REPs were taking over. This is almost certainly not going to be the case. Even if they want to be conservative and not make a call, they should be talking about the possibility that the DEMs are holding the house as well.

At this point, most every media outlet is not making a call yet. At least from what I have watched. The discussion is still on why there wasn't a red wave.

That's what I'm saying. Not only is it not a red wave, but the house is very probably staying blue. I'm wondering why that doesn't seem to be part of the conversation even if there's no call (I understand why they want to wait before calling so no issue there).

If I can see just sitting at my desk and counting on my fingers that the seat math is almost inevitably DEM 218-219, it seems like this should be part of the conversation.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but this thread I guess is as good as a place as any.

This just goes to show that dimiscration is ingrained in our society in many different ways.

Because it proves they never had solid data to back their projections. No one wants the egg on their face.

Yeah, I realized after reading pundits after the election that a lot of talk in media was centered around the NYT poll that showed a shift in momentum towards the republicans and that women swung wildly from caring about abortion rights towards inflation and the economy. Problem was other polls weren't showing that and somehow got drowned out. Plus the data from women was based on very low N's with an error rate above 10%. That one poll drove the entire narrative prior to the election. Plus it looks like aggregators were pulled by a lot of partisan republican polls while the democrats ordered few. So there was this illusion of a red wave that was never there in the population. Except maybe the state of New York.

But now there's no excuse. There are actual vote counts and projections can easily be made from the places where outstanding votes remain.

NV called for Masto. Dems officially at 50. Imagine GA runoff will be gravy and they'll sit at 51. Looks like house will be a 1-3 majority either way. Good to see.
MSNBC and CNN keep saying that it looks like the GOP will take the House, but I don’t see it that way. As far as I can tell, there are quite a few undecided seats that should swing to the Dems, but maybe I’m reading it wrong?

Sighs, why is the GOP on an all out war to stop student loan forgiveness.

They keep talking about the unfairness of it. But isn't it unfair they on multiple occasions supported bailing out large corporations because they were "to big to fail". People don't matter, corporations do.

Student loan forgiveness will help the economy more than bailing out a corporation that is on the verge of failing due to making the wrong decisions.

Keep in mind they also thought there was no way in hell Trump would win in 2016 until it happened.
These are entirely different situations.

And besides, not to discount future what-ifs, but the further we get from it, the more I think 2016 was a fluke. If he had been up against anyone else besides Clinton, I think he would've been destroyed.
