Political Discussion

The more people I meet the more I think that smart or intelligent people are in the absolute minority. Thinking about it I’ve only met three people in my life who have made me go “wow, they’re really fucking clever”. Most people you come across are various shades of average and below average and maybe do well with one kind of intelligence but struggle with others. A lot of the people we think of as clever are just a bit above that average.

As a person that measures intelligence for a living, this is true. Most people are average. It should come as no surprise. I think it’s like 66% of people are within a standard deviation of the norm.

This is so on brand for @Joe Mac.

Now stay off his lawn. Also, @Indymisanthrope obviously I made Joe's short list, so really it's just who the third person is...

Hahaha!

Honestly I’m sure there are some very clever people on here. There are also a couple who act like they’re God’s gift to the world and I don’t think come close to backing it up.

I find it hard to actually judge if someone is clever on an internet forum. It’s too easy to be witty without having to be sharp. I know this myself because some of my best retorts on here are not instant. I get time to go and have a look and make sure I’m right with my reference before I reply. In real life I’d mumble out something pathetic that sounded really good in my head. That said really daft people do betray themselves too. I kind of need to react to someone in person to be able to gauge them properly. Or at least in a live setting.

Having spoken with you in a live setting on JQBX you’d definitely be someone I’d imagine was clever.

So all you’re really doing is confirming that I am not a smart man.

Typically, higher commodity prices and labor costs squeeze corporate margins, especially if the economy is slowing. But Edwards pointed to data released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) last week that showed profit margins still near a record high relative to costs in the fourth quarter. The strategist said he assumed margins would have “declined sharply” at the end of last year as the economy slowed, but instead, “How wrong I was!”

Edwards added that he fears the “super-normal profit margins” of corporations in the U.S. and abroad could eventually “inflame social unrest” if consumers continue to struggle with inflation.

“The end of Greedflation must surely come. Otherwise, we may be looking at the end of capitalism,” he warned. “This is a big issue for policymakers that simply cannot be ignored any longer.”

In other words, unsustainable system is unsustainable...
