Political Discussion

There have been a rash of shootings lately when people show up at the wrong door / house accidently. In most cases the shooter has been charged, but in the case of a Florida Man who has shot two Doordash delivery drivers who went to the wrong house (his house), he likely will not face any jail time due to Florida's "stand your ground" law. The shootings are likely justified under law even though this was a mixup and the Doordash drivers posed no threat and no self defence was warranted.

Meanwhile in the state of Missouri

Gun violence is only getting worse. More so in red states than blue states. And gun sales are at a all time record high for first time gun buyers. Of people buying guns for the first time, white suburban women make up the majority of the demographic.

The thought that we have to live through another crusty old too proud to fuck off for the good of the world presidential race between Trump and Biden has filled me with incredible dread. Party politics and moneyed interests have destroyed democracy. And all we can do is complain on the internet because voting does fuck all.

The old and the rich have a stranglehold on this nation. My only hope is 10-20 years from now when they’ve all died off the younger generations will be poised to clean shit up.

…who am I kidding; they’re going to pass the baton to a bunch of boomerpilled gen-xers. I can’t even imagine how we millennials will be warped by middle age.

Not to mention the current white ol crusties will have set precedence and entrenched laws in their views making it extremely difficult to bring in change. Any attempt of change would likely be shot down by the courts for years go come.

The fight over the debt ceiling could get ugly.

There is already speculation that this could result in McCarthy getting ousted as majority leader if he does not meet the demands of the far right who are pushing for massing cuts and welfare to work legislation, all stuff that would never pass the senate or get signed by Biden.

The far rights argument is if Bill Clinton was willing to negotiate welfare to work and get it done there is no reason that Biden and Schumer can't. And that a default would be on them if they want to continue to play the political game of kicking the change down the road until the next debt ceiling as they always do.

The system is set up to protect property (and property owners--i.e. those that own other people's debts) instead of people. This is going to backfire in a big way. Cutting social services so that people must assume more debt to perform basic vital societal services (such as work) while also attempting to tamp down wages so they are not livable, will result in societal breakdown. With the new rash of child labor laws, it seems that government is more concerned with protecting companies that exploit workers instead of the workers themselves. As I have said before, the purpose of us forming complex social groups was to protect the most vulnerable, if we can no longer do that in America, do we really have a society? Is the real issue of societal cohesion a presence of a safety net? Backing those people that hold the debts instead of the debtors themselves while also creating an environment in which most people must go into debt to afford basics of life, creates a tinderbox of resentment and despair through society that ends up tearing it apart.
