Political Discussion

Okay. But who jazzes people right now for all these people saying Trump is a better option than Biden? Gavin Newsom? The best thing to happen to our country would be Nikki Haley somehow winning the GOP nomination over Trump. Sure, she's a shitbag but she won't be an autocrat.

What pisses me off the most is that just like RBG, his unwillingness to put country over his personal ambition could destroy our democracy and he'll be dead so he won't deal with the long term ramifications. There should always be a primary challenge. We should never be forced to go with the incumbent just because the party says that's who it is.

Hoping everyday they both drop dead sometime next year. Sooner than later.

As the polls seem to indicate, it's not necessarily that people are switching to Trump, they're just abandoning Biden. Anyone who goes the Trump route is a dipshit and an asshole. It's that people, especially young people, do not want an octogenarian president who's currently supporting what is looking like a genocide, who isn't doing anything to help them afford to pay their bills (the stock market be damned), and whose future looks very bleak on nearly every measure. I'm not saying it's rational to sit out and let Trump win, but most people, and certainly the American electorate, are not rational voters. Freud's theory of the pleasure principle and the death drive are really apt here just as they were prior to WWII. When pleasure becomes decreasingly unobtainable and life becomes about "unpleasure" people start to unconsciously crave a state in which there is neither. Death. Death has no pleasure and no pain, so people begin to take reckless actions or to further the cause of violence because they don't have good enough reasons not to. It might not be rational, but it happens.

So we go with the autocrat octogenarian who will throw actual full on support to the genocide, and make it harder on those young people. Yeah, we’re fucked.

This is a story about a 61 year old doctor from Virginia who had his citizenship revoked when he renewed his passport.

Long story short, he was born in Washington DC, granted a citizenship at birth, has lived in the United States his entire life, paid taxes, voted, went to school here and work his entire life here. He has no citizenship in any other country. Now he's in limbo, doesn't know if he can legally vote or every collect Social Security when he retires.

Why did this happen? This was the bureaucratic reason the state department gave him:

“As a member of your parent’s household at the time of your birth, you also enjoyed full diplomatic immunity from the jurisdiction of the United States,” reads the letter. “As such, you were born not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. Therefore, you did not acquire U.S. citizenship at birth.”

Essentially what that means, is that one of his parents had diplomatic immunity and children of those who have diplomatic immunity are not eligible for a U.S. Citizenship. Therefor citizenship was granted in error 61 years ago.

He was told he should apply to become a permanent resident. And an interview for that could be a year out do to the back long, and another 3 years for the next milestone in becoming a permanent resident.

I mean he's telling you exactly what he's going to do if he gets back into office. But if sitting at home and not voting for Biden is what you think you need to do to send Democrats a message...well, I guess we'll just have to hope for the best then especially for the groups that might stay home.

You seem to be arguing against an imaginary person on here, and while it would be stupid for anyone to not engage in the process because of these kind of messages it's not really encouraging to those who have legitimate concerns about Biden. Many know Trump is a piece of crap, but Biden needs to do better too.

We're all arguing on here against imaginary people. No one is really changing anyone's mind online. It's sharing misery, concerns, anger, and some moments of good things when you talk about politics online. Yes, Democrats need to change. You make them do that by getting people like AOC in office when you can.

yep, it´s pretty clear that he is out for revenge on all who wronged him. also it´s pretty much the fascist playbook 101: Find scapegoats and target them, increase tensoions with our countries to unite the nation against a common enemy and give as much power as possible in the hands of a strongman leader.
to be honest, europeans made the mistake of creating to many dependencies and russia and paying for it now. we over here should strongly thing about our relation to the us , try to preemptively reduce our dependencies on the us and be prepared to reduce cooperation and trade.

If that’s the case then there is no way anyone here should be expected to sit through what would be a pretty violent destruction of our economy without huge central support. Especially given how we were pretty much sacrificed to protect the larger economies in 2008/2009.

Here is something that really spoke a lot to me about the state of our country currently.

When I was home visiting my mother for Thanksgiving and watching the local news I noticed the recap of turkey day football games only listed a 6 games, and only one high school in Franklin County. And the one high school in Franklin Country was playing a different high school than they have historically have played against. The turkey day games have been set in stone for more than 40 years. The same schools always played each other.

Talking to my step father I learned it's because most high schools in Franklin County no longer have a football team. Budget cuts. If you want to play football students have to either go to the country technical school or school of choice to Frontier.

I'm amazed that we have gotten to the point where football programs have been canceled due to budgets. I'm more surprised here than the when I heard about art and music programs being cut 10 to 15 years or so back.

I’m confused why would Isreal care that a celebrity stops eating for two days or is this a political stunt/something to do to feel like you’ve done something?
They're protesting their own government, though? It says that explicitly in the article. The U.S. has the power here to do something.
