Political Discussion

the Dems aren’t doing anything for us at this point so they aren’t working for us.

As much as I dislike some of the rhetoric thrown around here and honestly keep quiet about it. @ayayrawn is right on the nose here.
I think more can be done, and there is just too much money in politics. I see how France and the UK put together whole elections cycles in a couple months and groan when I think about people already discussing what will happen/who will run in 2028.

That said, we currently have two parties in our system, and nothing is going to change between now and November. So these are our choices, D’s or R’s. On balance, I know which ones I’m picking.

And hopefully (though not likely) everyone who has gotten exhausted by politics over the years works to maybe change it a bit for the better. Maybe pay more attention to policy instead of looks or commercials. And eventually, if we worked at it, avoid having candidates on however many tickets that people don’t want elected as their only choices.

They are already investigating, why does Biden need to announce that they are. Capital Hill will move this lightening quick especially compared to the way they drug their feet on Jan 6
I'm saying the Executive Branch needs to review the protocols of the people paid to protect their members. I don't need Republican grandstanding on Capitol Hill. I want a thorough open review of the massive failures that almost led to one of the single worst incidents in our country's history. I know some are being flippant about this but if he had died yesterday, it would have had massive, deadly consequences for everyone. We have no idea what the nutjob fringe on that side would do if their God King was murdered.

My father just sent me this along with the caption “POS DEI hire”
Yes, seen a few conservative outrage mongers posting about the Secret Service having DEI. Of course, the cop who could've shot the suspect before he killed a person and almost killed Trump was a man. But he'll be hailed a hero because he broke the shooter's concentration which caused the shooter to rush the shots off. He'll probably get a medal and be called a hero. But it's women and minorities in white male dominated roles that are the real issue. It wasn't men in the Secret Service and law enforcement who didn't secure an f'ing perimeter.

These shitty excuses for men just can't hide their racism and misogyny. That's actually a great thing to show how different the two sides are. It would be nice if the people who are the same as the people called DEI as a pejorative would vote against the side that thinks you only got your position in life because of DEI.

I actually have faith that the Secret Service will be very thorough without intervention. Furthermore, I doubt all the details of the failures will be made public nor do I think they should.

There have been 25 attempted/plotted presidential assassinations since Gerald Ford took office and this is the 3rd time a President has been wounded in an assassination attempt. We like to pretend we live in a "civilized" nation and that these types of thing only happen in "Third World Countries" but we are just fooling ourselves, the USA has always been a violent and bloody place.
Still, it’s the setting of time. In the midst of a highly contentious election where the transition of power could result in a seditionist taking hold of the White House. Again. And that guy might not want to leave office in 2028

But yeah, we’re not better or worse that many developing nations in terms of violence.

Bitcoin surges as investors bet on Trump win after assassination attempt

From CNN's Hanna Ziady
Bitcoin surged Monday after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump at the weekend, as investors saw a greater chance that the former president — a cryptocurrency skeptic-turned-supporter — will win the November election.

The price of bitcoin jumped 9.5% to $62,980 in morning trading in London, after a deadly shooting at a campaign rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, left Trump wounded but defiant.

While Trump denounced cryptocurrencies during his presidency, saying their value was “based on thin air,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has since made a U-turn, with his campaign even accepting cryptocurrency payments.

The Republican party’s Trump-centered election platform promises to “end Democrats’ unlawful and un-American Crypto crackdown.”

Republicans have also pledged to defend the right to mine bitcoin and ensure every American can transact using digital assets “free from government surveillance and control.”

Bitcoin is an indicator of who might win the presidency now?
