Political Discussion

For some reason it took StickerMule for me to really see how odious the rhetoric in the wake of the Van Gogh moment is, and it ties into something I was remarking on last week: the way the party divide is framed as equally and mutually acrimonious. From where I'm sitting, the right is constantly and gleefully espousing political violence, vocally wishes ill on their opponents. Now they have one moment of violence aimed at them, and now it's time for us all to pump the brakes and start behaving with civility. It's an opportunity to characterize any opposition to Trump as an overreaction.

I had trouble seeing how this would result in stronger support for Trump, and maybe it won't, but last week this company wouldn't dream of expressing support for him.

A couple of things…

1. Who and where are these Trump supporters that are scared to admit they support him? They wear red hats and tshirts with his dumb face on them and fly flags upside down and Gettysburg flags and have fuck Biden bumper stickers and openly discuss how they’ll kill every last atf fucker that comes for their guns when you are eating at the diner. Or is this just because I live in the south in a sort of purple state.

2. I want to be very clear that I don’t think they are equal in their fuckery but it is important to call them all out on their fuckery. A dick is still a dick regardless of the size of the other dicks in the room.

This dude especially is a huge fucking loser. His claim to faim is a shitty, patronizing book and that's it.
…a book that Liberals initially ate up, claiming it was some sort of Rosetta Stone for understanding the plight of poor whites and why they’d lost faith in the government in general and the Democratic Party in particular. He’s a crass opportunist who realized the easiest way to obtain power is by embracing MAGA so that’s the path he chose. He also understood that hypocrisy isn’t something that really bothers you average GOP voter.

Yeah, posting what he said about Trump simply does not matter to Trump voters. Undecided voters might care but I doubt it. Trump has done all he's done and you're still contemplating voting for him? You probably don't have high moral grounds to stand on but you love that Trump and Vance will try to enforce high morals on the rest of the country.

Do they use their company’s social media to express their support of him? Even businesses with known known Trump supporters at the helm avoid taking a side.

As to 1) I live in a recently blue state (CO) and in a blue district ( Jason Crow is our House Rep) and I see those stickers, signs, hats and shirts at the grocery store, on pick-ups ((I’ve seen the hog-tied Biden a couple times, before it was on the news). The stupid Maga hats have been worn in church, dropping off kids at school, hell, in 2016 one walked into the Dem caucusing site). So, I don’t know who the hell sticker man is talking about.

That’s part of the appeal for many MAGA acolytes, they think they are shoving dissent into our delicate woke faces, they think they’re mavericks. In actuality we all just assume they are assholes and give them a wide birth.

In all honesty, every redhat-wearing person I see, I give a wide birth because I expect them to be unpredictable, likely angry, and potentially violent.

In retrospect, no one at the time was deeply aware of the extent Russia was helping Trump and damaging Hillary. There is no question that Russia won that election for Trump.
I think many across the US just sat on their couches because they didn’t like Hillary and didn’t want to vote for her, but counted on the ones who voted to send Trump to the dustbin of history.

I think Dems need to work on knocking on doors and getting voters out in every state between now and November like they have never done before.

I agree. Hillary's ground game was non-existent in states she lost, like Michigan, because they didn't take Trump seriously enough. That's far more why she lost, than because she was unpopular.

Both can't be more than each other. But one was a bigger reason is what I said, not that one was wrong.
My point was more that she was a bad candidate who ran a bad political campaign. Both contributed to her failure. If she was a great Obama-esque candidate she might have been able to take “Blue Wall” states for granted and still won. She was not a candidate that should have taken anything for granted.
