It’s stuff like this that makes me think I am out of the loop. This album was released back 2019 and they have a track on Spotify that has been played more than 200,000,000 times and I didn’t even know they existed until just now…and that song, it’s really good too. Lots of jangly guitar. This is the type of album that would be right up my alley and I spend A LOT of time reading, discussing, and obviously listening to music yet it was completely off my radar.

I wonder if this track “Kilby Girl” is one of those Spotify algorithm hits or if this song/album/band are really popular and I am just really out of the loop.

Seems like they opened for Jack White on some tour dates and song possibly got popular on TikTok?

I have spent the last hour trying to figure it out and then I just started watching random college band’s on YouTube cover the “Kilby Girl” track. Which both made me a bit nostalgic for house parties but also made me feel secure in knowing the kid’s (and Guitar base Indie Rock) are gonna be alright, they are absolutely killing the guitar solos.

A couple essential albums from Cluster Cluster - Superior Viaduct
There’s a radio show on some public radio station in Ithaca I’ve been listening to (can’t remember how I even found it…maybe through an instagram record account?) and they were playing some Cluster a week or two ago. had never heard it before. Some awesome stuff! Gonna check these out

Shit, this is totally off my radar and I live in Salt Lake City! Have to check it out.

Just for context, the most popular Jack White song on Spotify “Lazaretto” has only 65Million plays and that album came out in 2014.

It’s gotta be an algorithm thing, right? 200Million is a lot of plays.
Probably showed up in some Netflix show. Lord Huron’s top song has 1.2 BILLION plays because it showed up in 13 Reasons Why back when that was popular.

Yeah, I just purchased it. It’s a bit emo-y, the songs have lots of dramatic breaks but the guitars are very jangly and what make it really ear wormy to me.

Love to get your take.
Listened to a couple cuts and I definitely can see the appeal. From what I'm reading about them, their lyrics should make for an engaging listen, along with their guitars. Interesting take in this article, where some (probably) exaggerated but (nevertheless) interesting RIYL suggestions are offered.

I hadn't heard this until now, but I'm guessing the title Kilby Girl is referring to Kilby Court, a small concert venue in SLC.
