Record Store Day 2022

Why am I not surprised….

The Bill Evans releases are always ALWAYS well done and sound great, but the question is how many of them do I actually need because they are all the same vibe.
Well if the art pepper is not there I wanted an alt jazz release to go for haha. There are so many and I’m a newb so I am just trying to get as much intel as I can.

I was looking over my list last night and this is where I am currently…

April

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Live Seeds
Golden Smog - On Golden Smog
The Replacements - Unsuitable for Airplay: The Lost KFAIConcert (Live)
Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Modern Lovers 88
The Walkmen - Lisbon

June

Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band - Ragged But Right
The Royal Tenenbaums (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

…I keep scrolling through hoping to find something else I need but overall it’s a bit of a down year for me.
Alright, after seeing prices and sampling a few things I think my list has modified slightly…

April

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Live Seeds $42

Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Modern Lovers 88 $26

The Walkmen - Lisbon $35

Pepper Adams & The Tommy Banks Trio - Live At Room AT The Top $50

Art Pepper - Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section [Mono] $32

June

Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band - Ragged But Right

The Royal Tenenbaums (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

I’ve added the two “Pepper” Jazz albums to my list, both seem like nice sets and should sound great based on the pressing details. I also might grab the live Replacement LP too but I already have 2 of their Live albums, how many do I need?

Man, $42 for that Nick Cave is a tough pill (especially because my local always jacks up RSD prices so it’ll probably be more like $48-$50).

I’ve been eyeing that plus the live Pixies and Pearl Jam releases, but now I’m not so sure. I already have the PJ on CD, so perhaps I should just order Live Seeds on CD as well and call it good. I’ll stream the Pixies this week to see if that’s worth buying on vinyl. I may end up going to the record store just to check out the extra crates of used stuff they usually hoard up for RSD.

The Coachella '04 performance is pretty subdued. I would have paid a lot for a good like...Boston '91 Pixies with full blown screaming Frank. these 2xLP prices (Pixies, Cave, Echo, Nyro) at $40+ are absurd.

The Opeth being $50 was a hard NO for me...
I love Opeth and it is one I do not have....
This is why I was asking about all the jazz releases as they are pretty pennies...
I swear sometimes Jazz is too expensive to collect

I am really interested in what everyone is excited about. Please let me know what you are after! I am especially curious about jazz/blues/soul releases that I might not be familiar with (or, any genre, for that matter).

For example - I learned about Kenny Dorham and Larry Coryell from this site during past RSD
forum posts and they have turned into some absolute favorites!

I'm looking for the mono pressing of Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section from Craft, and Pepper Adams Live at Room at the Top from Reel to Reel.

Not jazz, but also looking for If Children from Wye Oak.

Yeah, I’m in on the two “Pepper” releases.

As far as Jazz releases go; I know there is albums dropping from Max Roach, Art Blakey, plus a couple Bill Evans Releases, there’s also Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus, and Chet Baker being released as well.

You might dig Brian Bennett’s Voyage (A Journey Into Discoid Funk) and Betty Harris - The Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul
