September 2020 Challenge Thread- The Gav-La’s

Day 4: “And now for something completely different..” ..any Record you like but with a piece of music related memorabilia to accompany it ...

So I don't have a super great story to this one. For some super weird reason, most of my coolest merch or live show acquisitions don't really line up to the records I collect (or come from artists who really need to re-press some of their stuff so I can find it...). However, I am really excited to show off the pairing and spin the early versions of some of Phoebe Bridgers' work (and two straight days of her to boot). Earlier this year I was able to snag a signed lyric sheet to the title track of this EP and one of my favorite songs and couldn't turn it down. It holds a prized place on my wall near my small collection of 7" records.

Phoebe Bridgers - Killer (EP)

Day 4 - Memorabilia

A load of Dexys Midnight Runners stuff. The 3 at the bottom are signed by Kevin Rowland. Special interest on top of the programme is the original trombone mouthpiece of Big Jimmy Patterson, legendary member and co-writer of Come On Eileen.

This is maybe a cooler Sparks piece. I sponsored one of their gigs when they did the 21 nights concert so I got to meet them for photos and got to write a little quote in the programme. They signed the programme that night. Have met them since then in the airport whole going to see them on tour.

Kikagaku Moyo - Forest Of Lost Children

I learned about Kikagaku Moyo during the prerelease promotion of their last LP, Masana Temples. After being blown away by everything I heard (and preordering Masana Temples) I checked to see if they had any shows coming up and sure enough on the release date of Masana Temples they had a show scheduled at Nuemos in Seattle. The show was amazing. I also picked up this LP and some fun swag.

Another great post ☝️

Day 4: Memorabilia

I am a die hard fan of The National, and was so thrilled to go their record release show for Sleep Well Beast at The Bowery Ballroom in NYC, sponsored by SiriusXMU. We got the album in entirety (plus a few other songs) and Bryan personally handed me his setlist. One of my fave pieces of merch from the SWB tour is this pillowcase.

A double post for me.

1) An obvious choice... a record (Blood Red Shoes - Get Tragic; signed) and a corresponding band t-shirt from the gig I saw them at in the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham.

2) Slightly more obscure...a record (Frank Turner - Poetry of the Deed) but no additional merch I hear you cry...well...on the song 'I Still Believe' the chorus is of the crowd singing back at Frank from the first time he played the song at Leeds / Reading Festival 2010 before the album was finished and released. Needless to say, both my better half and I were at the front of the Leeds gig (Radio 1/NME) tent singing / screaming our lungs out as instructed, so I claim the piece of music related memorabilia as myself (and my wife).

Cody Jinks - Less Wise - Modified Reissue 2017

Show poster from the second night of two sold out shows at the Ryman Auditorium - Nashville, Tennessee Oct. 21st 2017.

This was my first time to see a show at the "Mother Church of Country Music", as well as Jink's first time to headline the venue.
