Television

I LOVE the original series. I was really hesitant to watch this one because I'm not sure how they could do a better series than the original Penny Dreadful. If you say this good, then I'll give it a shot.
I was hesitant to watch Penny Dreadful. I do not like scary things. At all. And was concerned that this was too scary for me. I think you were the one that convinced me to watch! Thank you.

Bare in mind before taking my opinion into account, that I haven't watched the original series and had no expectations going into it.

Kings of Pain is well funny. It's like Jackass in the rainforest.
Killing Eve 3 is OK. It's more of the same but the same is still pretty damn entertaining.

TV Rundown Quarantine Edition:
Belgravia:Not my bag, but 100% my wife's bag, but I enjoyed it

Better Call Saul: Best Show on TV rn

Bob's Burgers:One of the best animated shows ever. Still top notch in its later seasons

Brockmire: I really dislike the premise of the final season, but the jokes are still there.

Desus and Mero:Still the best show on late night

Dispatches From Elsewhere: 4 loners are thrown together in a mysterious game. It's weird, and I'm not even sure I think it's that good, but I've been drawn to it. Points for having a trans woman as a serious romantic lead, a great soundtrack, and Andre 3000.

Futureman: Stupid, but funny. The ending wasnt that great, but it was enjoyable overall

Gravity Falls:How have I never watched this before? Halfway through the first season and loving it.

Homeland:Solid final season, satisfying ending. I'm glad its over

Insecure: Hasnt been my favorite start to a season yet, but still a very good show

Killing Eve: Villanelle might be my favorite character in all of tv

Last Week Tonight:Always fantastic and informative, very weird without a studio audience

Penny Dreadful COA: Never watched the first series but I'm all in after the 1st episode of this

Run: I'm watching it, but I dont know if I like it. Also I dont know how they drag this out for a whole season

Schitts Creek: Fantastic last season, I'm going to miss this show

The Last Dance:I dont get why we need 10 episodes on a single season of one team in the NBA when Ken Burns can cover the entire history of baseball in 9. I'm enjoying it tho

The Plot Against America:Really good limited series about an alternative US timeline. David Simon. Hits a little too close to home to our current times tho

Westworld: Why do I continue to watch this awful show?

Yea its had its ups and downs and never got back to the highs of the first two seasons, but overall it was very enjoyable for me. I'm a sucker for spy shit. All that being said, I'm glad its over.
I only watched the first two seasons. I loved them a lot, especially the first. But I think I tuned into the third and gave up really quickly, so I haven't seen anything past it.

Agree on all those points. I really love The Last Dance, but seeing how they've constructed the episodes, it does feel...unnecessary that it's 10 episodes.

Westworld...whew. I liked the intention in the first few episodes but it lost me. I have been so bored in most of the season, and I feel like I shouldn't be. They should be able to construct a great story out of finally being in the real world...but it just hasn't landed with me. I haven't watched the last two episodes yet.

Yea they really lost their way in the middle seasons and did way too much with Carrie's mental state. I feel like it found a nice groove towards the end. Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson was consistently the best part of the show

Yea I thought this season would be a breath of fresh air but it is just a slog to get through. Theres not a single likeable character on the show, I dont know who to root for, and I feel like the writers are more interested in making convoluted twists instead of writing an interesting story. The only thing this show has going for it right now is that I have to spend 99% of my time at home and need to fill that time with something.

Waco just moved over to Netflix. I didn’t catch it when it originally aired on Paramount in 2018. I’ve done quite a bit of reading on it and it’s pretty accurate in its depiction of what happened. I highly recommend it, but don’t go into it lightly. It’s a gut wrenching and devastating watch.

Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, Rory Culkin and Julia Garner give amazing performances.

I finished it last night. Agreed, it's really gut wrenching. I have always loved Taylor as Riggins but didn't like him as any other character, his acting was pretty flat in anything else. But I thought he did a damn good job in this.

And Julia Garner is the bee's knees.

This is a decent show, or at least an intriguing one. I've watched the pilot and was immediately drawned into it. I agree, it's nice to see a transgender actress being casted as a lead on network television.

My current TV rundown:

We finished The Wire S2 last night. I'm glad to be past that season, I remember loving it from S3 through to the end. Also, Nick was awful.

Better Call Saul has gotten better every season, with this latest being its best. I'm really going to miss that show.

I have watched four episodes of Brews Brothers. What a weird combo of stupid, cringe-worthy and a few laughs. It's got a bit of a Broken Lizard vibe. I can't recommend it though, the two laughs per 30 minutes won't work for several more episodes I'm guessing.

I think I should watch Waco. Not sure about Run.

Also we need to finish The Good Place and Schitt's Creek.

My wife really liked Westworld, I consistently fell asleep while watching it...it just didn't work for me.

I have been putting on 30 Rock at night before I crash. It makes me laugh every time I watch, but I can't string a ton of them together because the style of it wears on me.

Not just a lead but a romantic lead opposite a cis male like Jason Segal. The transgender community have slowly been getting more representation in film, but to my knowledge I havent see media normalizing a relationship like that yet. It's nice to see.

Refreshing for sure to see one of the standout performances on the show coming from Eve Lindley, a Brooklyn-based actress, who is trans, playing the love interest of Jason Segel’s character, Peter.

I feel like maybe this has been talked about here before, but did you ever read that GQ profile of Fraser a couple of years ago? Seems like a guy that got truly boned. Those first Mummy movies aren't spectacular, but they should have been the beginning of something for him, not the end. He had the charisma to do a lot more than what he got, IMO.
I did. Kind of a tragic story. Encino Man was also an underrated movie.
