Television

I finished it last night. Agreed, it's really gut wrenching. I have always loved Taylor as Riggins but didn't like him as any other character, his acting was pretty flat in anything else. But I thought he did a damn good job in this.

And Julia Garner is the bee's knees.
The twin events of Ruby Ridge and Waco happened right in my early teens. I watched the news coverage of the day and then learned of the lies of the government and media at the time regarding who these people were and why the government was after them. To this day those events fill me with deep sadness and an even deeper rage. What happened there was highly influential on my views and politics. But I doubt that’d be much of a surprise. 😆

I'm not at all surprised. Lol

I do remember the spin by the media. I recently watched something about Ruby Ridge and I can not for the life of me remember what it was. A documentary or a fictionalized account, like Waco. Doesn't matter really. My point is that the spin that I remember from back then was very much thrown for a loop after watching the Ruby Ridge thing and Waco. I found myself actually sympathizing with Randy and David. Not that I agree with their views, nor is their lifestyle for me. But that is irrelevant. They are human beings that deserve the same rights we all do.

The larger FBI agent in Waco, his last name was Prince on the show - I assume that is not the name of the real life person. Do you know who it is? And if that person is now in jail? Because he deserves to be.

Waco just moved over to Netflix. I didn’t catch it when it originally aired on Paramount in 2018. I’ve done quite a bit of reading on it and it’s pretty accurate in its depiction of what happened.
I visited the Branch Davidian complex ruins on a road trip ages ago. It's incredibly sad.

Though she was awful, Janet Reno And Her One Blue Dress would be a great band name.

Yea I thought this season would be a breath of fresh air but it is just a slog to get through. Theres not a single likeable character on the show, I dont know who to root for, and I feel like the writers are more interested in making convoluted twists instead of writing an interesting story. The only thing this show has going for it right now is that I have to spend 99% of my time at home and need to fill that time with something.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. This was supposed to be so good, but it's falling flat because it's trying to be too smart.

From what I understand, this computer has created a model that works okay as long as there aren't too many people who fall into patterns that the machine cannot predict. These are what they are calling outliers. The machine is getting rid of variance in order for it's model to fit well into the real world model. That's the big reveal I got from the latest, so now it's going to be machine against machine to save the "outliers" who are all cryogenically frozen while also trying to stop Deloris from executing the "revolution" code the computer gave to her right before she pushed the engage button and took her and Maeve offline.

My prediction is that Maeve will end up stopping the revolution and saves the frozen people. I think that Deloris's partner has something to do with this, and he's going to be given a choice at the end. His choice will be between saving humanity vs. not. But that's just my guess on how this will play out.

The SAC at Waco was Agent Jeff Jamar, and no, he didn’t face any real sanctions for his actions at the siege.

@Teeeee - Of course I thought of you....My friend just texted me and asked if I had ever watched Parks & Rec. Of course I'm excited when a new fan of the show pops up. After trading a couple texts about the awesomeness of it as a whole (he's well into season 3) he said "yeah, everything but season one, with that bore of a character Mark."
I said that's been almost universally agreed upon. :D

Over the weekend I started After Life S2 and Dave...talk about two opposite series! Really enjoying both, Dave is especially hard to stop watching.

I jumped ship after last season.

The first season fulfilled my desire to have a TV show about my Red Dead Redemption video game experience in some twisted, VR fantasy way. You know how if something frustrates you over the edge in-game you quick save and then go on a rampage, killing everyone and everything? Yeah, that.

But outside of that, I agree it made the viewer go through way too many mental hoops that it became unenjoyable.

Not TV directly, but the Office Ladies Podcast has been really enjoyable if you're a big fan of The Office (US). I don't listen to a lot of podcasts but this one is great because it's with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, not just two randos chatting about episodes.

Has anyone else listened to this?

I’ve been going through this podcast for the past few weeks now. It’s great! But I wish the episodes were a tad bit longer. I really like long episodes of podcasts...but that’s just a me thing.

I’m reading the oral history of The Office so pairing that with this podcast is great. I was really into the show while it was on and would often rewatch the dvds constantly. Now it has this sort of second life on Netflix and people are doing what I used to do. It’s weird that it’s become one of the most popular binge shows for a younger generation.

Also although I love The Office and it holds a big nostalgic place in my heart, I think I still prefer Parks and Rec. it’s the funnier or the two, and remained consistently great throughout its run whereas I can’t really say the same about The Office.

The Office is my favorite tv show of all time. Lots of notalgia, I burned a hole through my seasons 1-4 DVDs in high school rewatching before everything was on Netflix. But it does suffer after season 7, 8 is pretty bad, 9 gets a little better because the plot is moving along faster to end the show.

I made my ratings into a chart because it's easier than me just typing it all out.

If I watched Parks and Rec and The Office today, I would not like The Office as much as I do. A lot of the jokes wouldn't make it on TV nowadays and some parts are very cringe. Parks never goes that direction and no season has ever been lower than an 8. I'd probably say Parks is a better show overall.

I agree with that chart. Like I think season 8 is pretty awful. The characters become completely cartoony and the storylines are just boring. But yeah the final season picks things back up for sure, albeit still not quite on par with the best. I really love season 5 because of the mini-arc of The Michael Scott Paper Company. It was a nice way to breathe in some new life. Anyway, I am actually re-watching The Office right now in conjunction with the book and podcast - although I’m ahead of the podcast. There are definitely jokes in those first couple of seasons that are...hard to take now. Parks has the benefit of not going for the same style of humor as The Office and yeah I think it ages much better.

yeah there are a handful of episodes in season 5 that are just not that great. That season has the worst Christmas Episode too, that's what immediately comes to mind when I think of the bad episodes in season 5. I guess that's why it gets docked a point.
