Television

I am liking Rings of Power way more than House of the Dragon. They really tried to hook me in last night, but there's so much that is just sort of expected. Also, I was rewatching GoT and got a major HotD spoiler, soooo there's that. If you want to know what I found, it's in the spoiler.

Oops, I clicked the link.

I will say, though, that I watched GoT for the first time right before season 7 started
and, having already known basically what the Red Wedding was it still shocked me quite a bit.

I read the book and knew what was coming too and it was still a wild episode.

IDK, I'm not connecting as much with this one. I thought episode 4 was probably the most intriguing episode I have watched thus far. I'm still going to continue to watch. I'm giving them the whole season to reel me in. In contrast, I thought episode three of LotR: Rings of Power was not a strong episode. They are setting up for a couple big things, I can tell, but a lot of what they are setting up seems obvious. I am looking forward to next Friday to see if episode four captures a bit more of that episode two magic.

Made it to Breaking Bad season 5, so we’ve kinda been slacking on catching up on anything else. Season 4 brings back so many memories, like when I had the finale spoiled on the internet a couple days before it aired (I was searching theories). Since then I’ve actually been pretty disappointed in that finale. Rewatching it last night I still feel the same. It’s just a little ridiculous idk. Season 5 is so fresh to me cause I only watched it once when it aired and don’t remember so much of it. I don’t remember loving everything about it, but so far I’m enjoying it quite a bit.

I am right there with you. I literally just finished up season 4 a half an hour ago. And have only watched through season 5/6 a single time so it’s not nearly as familiar. I feel like this time through I am watching it more from the perspective of everyone other than Walt. Getting to know some of the other character through BCS makes the other characters more interesting and thankfully it was done so well that it holds up quite nicely. Walter White growing from a sad sack schmuck to a murderous sociopath drug kingpin wasn’t as interesting the second time through as watching with all the side characters trying to survive in his wake. Jesse in particular, Hank, Mike, it’s fascinating and harrowing and ultimately tragic.

I'll second that. I actually stalled after a couple episodes, went back to it and absolutely loved what they did. I'm halfway through S2 and enjoying it just as much.
It was similar with "Our Flag Means Death" (another Taika series). It starts one direction and then tonally shifts a part way through. I love that this season they are letting the characters breathe a bit and have their own episodes.

Damn you Joffrey!

Finally getting around to Reservation Dogs; watched the first two episodes (of season one) tonight.
Absolute gold.
I was listening to The Watch podcast (my favorite TV pod) and they compared the show to Richard Linklater films, where everyone is just hanging out in a world that you wanna hang out in and and a cast of characters that you wanna hang out with. The plot isn’t really the point and these young(-ish) actors are exceptional.

My wife, who is a huge fan of the books, said it was better than the movie attempt, but still wasn't happy with it. But you can say that about most book to movie/show adaptations. Lord of the Rings and The Expanse being major outliers.
i know a lot of big fans of the Tolkien books who weren´t happy at all with the LOTR movies
