Television

Heard it starts slow, but that’s okay, I’m willing to give it some time. I can be The English patient.

Watched the first three episodes of Andor last night. I'm in, it's really well done. I love how they handled the flashbacks, seamless.
It’s so great. The Star Wars stuff is fine but if this was set in occupied Europe during the onset of World War II it would be just as brilliant. Tony Gilroy made the most suspenseful spy thriller on TV since The Americans and it just so happens to take place in the Star Wars universe.

Yeah, tbh I don't even care that it's connected to the SW universe...it was really good; suspenseful and engaging.

The weird part is in some ways, It’s been more difficult to sell some of my friends/family on the show because it’s set within the Star Wars universe. I was talking with a co-worker last week about our favorite shows and asked if she had watched it, and she had not. She had heard good things about it but since she doesn’t keep up on the Star Wars releases, she felt like she would be lost and not know what’s going on.

One of the things that is an excellent part of the show is that there is little exposition, they just drop you into the action and rightfully assume the audience with figure out everything as the story progresses. It takes almost the entire first episode to get your footing but by the end of the second episode it hooks the viewer. This start I think also makes those who are not big into Star Wars to question whether they missed something. So why I find the story of the rise of the rebellion rich and interesting subject matter I do feel that it can hinder the show’s potential for mass appeal.

Not that Disney necessarily needs another hit but I feel if a show like Andor prove successful, you end up with more worthwhile content moving forward.

Also I am 4 episodes into The English and it is excellent TV. The show is visually stunning lots of beautiful vistas that wraps around some brutal violence and revenge. It’s everything you want in a modern American Western.

Yup! I wasn't fully on board until episode 3. But then I was all-in.

I read on this forum about absorbing it in three episode chunks, that proved to be a good formula because somewhere during 2 and 3 I was hooked too.

The pacing of Andor is a lot more like The Americans than anything else in Star Wars media, where they expect patience and let the tension simmer, but then pay it off big time.

I haven't seen The Americans but I love me some simmering tension, so I'll keep it in mind. The continual ramp and amazingness of the final six episodes of Andor was especially amazing - I loved the whole thing right out the gate, but those last six were especially incredible

I'll just say that The Americans is one of my top shows ever (and shares a writer with Andor).
