Currently trying to get through Season 3 of His Dark Materials. I didn’t realize this was coming back and while I like it, it’s put me to sleep a couple times. I blame it on me not feeling well the past few days but refusing to take it easy and thus crashing hard early each night.

Yes. At first I thought eh, but then I got pretty into it. Really enjoyed all the characters. But the newest episode was…surprising.
I thought the Me-Time episode was a fantastic perspective shift, and I realized it had been hinted at with the upside-down shots. It took it from what I thought was just a poor, righteous, divorced guy buddy dramedy to something so much more.
The show has done a good job at slowly peeling away the 'poor me' focus of Toby...I don't mind that it took most of the season to reveal this.
That scene at the end where Libby is sitting bedside with Rachel, listening to Toby's VM saying 'my life has been rough lately' was almost enough for me, like it could have wrapped right there.

Also, Clare Danes was exceptional in that episode. Almost hard to watch. I'm guessing there will be Emmy consideration, for whatever that's worth.

The books were a bit hard work at times too - but worth perceiving with . I’m gonna wait til the tv series is finished and then binge watch

Yes, I hadn't really thought about all the upside down shots (which I've loved), but now it does all make sense with the shift in perspective. I mean I think a few episodes ago I started to feel like Toby is not a great person, but this episode really underlines the stark difference in his and Rachel's perspectives and trajectories. I am very curious to see how it will wrap up. Also initially I thought Libby narrating was an odd choice, but it actually makes perfect sense - and she's been kind of the most interesting character to me.

I just binged it over three days and I'm caught up, (last episode drops later this week)
It's definitely worth watching. Check back when you get to it, I need to talk about what I just saw.
Alright, I watched the first episode and it’s right up my alley. The cast is excellent and the storytelling is creative/quirky/hyper literate with Lizzy Caplan ongoing narration. The group of actors are roughly my same age and though I am not a wealthy upper west side Jewish divorced father of two, the midlife milieu (I don’t want to say crisis, because that seems too cliche) is relatable. Also, the upside-down camera work is quite effective at disorienting the viewer creating a new perspective of the familiar which seems to be a big part of what the show is about.

Update: I am all caught up and it was even better than I hoped. The perspective switch in episode 7 really added another level to a show that was already quite enjoyable.
