Television

I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming quasi-sequel Masters Of Air that’s supposed to be dropping early next year on Apple TV+. I was kinda disappointed in The Pacific. The Pacific looked just as stunning cinematographically but the source material was lacking and cast two wide of a net. Part of what made BOB (and to a lesser extent Saving Private Ryan) so amazing is how you traveled along Easy Company’s journey from beginning to end. I was never as invested in the characters in The Pacific. The early previews of Masters of Air feels like we are gonna be staying with the same air division (The 100th Bomb Group) throughout.

Oh wow, I hadn't heard of this yet. We were going to watch Pacific next but I don't remember connecting with it nearly as much as BoB, just as you said.

I've been rewatching BoJack Horseman and it's way more funny than I remember when it first came out. I didn't actually finish the series, according to my Netflix I watched up through season 5. But I don't recall a lot of the storylines, although some episodes are familiar. What I think happened was I'd hear a voice actor, look them up on my phone trying to figure out who they were and then miss half the plotline of the episode. Anyway, it's depressing in moments, but not as much as I thought it was. When I thought about rewatching/finishing it over the past few years, I didn't want to watch something so sad, but it's not really. BoJack's story is tragic, but Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter are hilarious together. It's funnier than a lot of other shows that label themselves as comedy. Plus I'm getting a few more references this time around than back in 2014.

This is one of my favorite TV scenes/quotes of all time

My favorite tv series of the last 10 years. My wife is rewatching it right now. Like Arrested Development, also with Will Arnett, there are so many layers of jokes that you are definitely rewarded by repeat viewings.

I could've sworn the fifth season was billed as the last when it aired, but I'm completely failing to find anything which corroborates this.
A friend if my said this too so you're not crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if at this point, this was actually the last one

I thought I'd seen a 'final season' billed as well, but per Variety, that has never been promoted.

"You might be thinking: Isn’t every season of “Curb” potentially its last? While this is sorta true — the series has long operated with an open invitation from HBO and without a strict timeline — the cable network is, for the first time, definitively promoting the next batch of episodes as Larry David‘s “final season.”"

I watched the first few episodes of it years ago on HBO GO and didn't care for it. But it's been running very sporadically for a while. It's timeline looks a lot like a UK Television show with the gaps in seasons.

First season is okay, but at it's peak, it's probably the funniest show I've ever seen. The arching plot of season 7 is the putting together of a Seinfeld reunion and it's nonstop hilarity.

Having never seen any of Curb, I did find an IndieWire article from August 2022 covering how an episode in Season 11 was even filmed as if that season would be the last, but ended up not being used in that way. As of the timing of that article, season 12 was mentioned as being "unfinished" so work has been underway for some time.

(not linking article because it's spoilery to non-viewers like me)

If you’re a fan of Seinfeld you should stick it out/give it another go. The first season has a weird feel to it. I did the same thing you did like a decade ago where I watched the first few episodes and decided it wasn’t for me but I went back prior to season 10 and powered through the first season and by the time we got caught up I would say I like it about as much if not more than Seinfeld.

Yep, that's the one. I remember the finale has a really weird tone to it; probably has something to do with a single-camera, grounded in everyday life, broadly improvised sitcom containing a scene set in heaven :ROFLMAO:
Yeah, it felt like a “series finale” too.

They don’t make many shows like this anymore either. Shows that are willing to be mean for the sake of a laugh. The edges have been sanded down on a lot of sitcom tv. Larry David doesn’t fuck around with redeeming moments. He is an asshole and many people around him are pricks. Nowadays there is shows have mean/edgy moments but they are usually equally cut with softer moments.
