Television

My anticipation for another round of Squid Game has felt muted (I know the first season had an open ending, but it just seems like a well with diminishing returns), but I got around to episode 1 last night. I enjoyed it, as much as one can enjoy such intensity, and I was reminded why the first season was so engrossing and watchable. Being on Netflix's ad tier and getting served Squid Game branded ads for pizzas and video games was a tad dissonant though.

This reply is probably better suited in the video games thread, but it actually pisses me off how some developers sold out to Netflix and now have their games locked behind a Netflix sub.

I was a huge fan of the original Monument Valley. Then, the devs gave heavy favor to Apple on the release of MV2, so I as an Android owner had to wait what felt like forever to play the sequel. Now MV3 is downloadable on both iOS and Android but requires an active & paid Netflix account login. Our Netflix is on my SO's account and we'd have to dig up the credentials since it's just been permanently logged on on our Playstation for literal years. After the earlier term of Apple exclusivity on MV2, this just feels like a second middle finger from Ustwo, the developer.

I always viewed games on netflix as a weird extra perk, not an arm of their sloppy stewardship of digital media. That's way disappointing!

They are not exactly good at advertising ggeir property
Considering the price my guess is they're courting a purchaser who'd consider this a feature or potential moneymaking opportunity.

Outside of Portland lies Astoria, where the Goonies house was famously owned by people who hated all the tourists showing up to take pictures. It's changed hands several times and it sounds like the current owners embrace the attention a lot more.

Id think feature. I'm not sure how you can make money. It's only the outside of the house so you can't restrict that from public view. The inside of the house has no connection to the show.

People are already getting what they want for free (well, less the price of a pizza, I suppose).

Just processing that season 2 of Severance is finally coming and the reviews say it's just as good or better than the first? Let's goooooooo

I feel like I should do a rewatch beforehand. It’s been a long time.

Halfway through the season 1 rewatch right now. The work is indeed mysterious and important.
I liked S1 enough when it came out but didn't love it. On a rewatch now and I'm really enjoying it much more the second time around. Bring on S2!
