Just found this interesting map with @Lee Newman new favorite nightmare for Belgium. I love too see Francis "God with a Moustache" Cabrel for France and sad to see Delfins for Portugal. ALso, I can't wait to dive into Finland's artist discography.

U2? Seriously! I get they’re big and stuff and contrary to other people I don’t hate them but seriously???

It’s big American style arena rock, if they weren’t Irish it’d sound the same, just less songs about the troubles.

For a country that has always had large scale emigration and a culture that has influenced folk music and literature way above its size picking U2 is just really lazy.

I would have picked the Corrs

Buzzcocks - Another Music in a Different Kitchen

First time listening. Is it fair to say that this is among the roots of pop punk? Catchy with an edge...just accessible enough to non-punk enthusiasts, but without having to sacrifice its authenticity. Rock solid consistency from start to finish, especially the closer. No question that my favorite track here is "Moving Away From the Pulsebeat".

Personal highlights: "Fast Cars," "Autonomy," "Moving Away From the Pulsebeat"
Rating: 3.5/5 [Great]

This is what I'll say about this Eagles album.

Listening to it from beginning to end for the purposes of this exercise wasn't the worst thing in the world. There's even some songs here that aren't completely dead on arrival (mostly in the first half because this record is extremely front loaded). I've been down on the title track in the past due to overplay though in the context of the album it's by far the strongest song here. New Kid in Town is also perfectly acceptable AOR soft rock.

Here's the thing, though. I will never, ever listen to this again on my own time.

I mentioned the album was front loaded but that's implying the singles themselves are great, which they really aren't. The entire thing lacks energy and feels like it's on autopilot. I don't hear any ambition here and the band never extend themselves beyond doing the bare minimum of making ho-hum background music that can be played on classic rock stations without ruffling any feathers. Even by the end of side one, it starts to feel like a slog, and most of the remaining runtime went in one ear and right out the other. I don't feel like I'm going to retain much of this at all and that's about the worst feeling a piece of music can leave you with in my estimation.

So it sounds like this has the makings of a 1-star album but I'm not so sure. As much as I didn't care for it, it's music designed to be as inoffensive and middle of the road as possible so it's not like it evokes many strong negative emotions in me. For me to give an album 1 star it has to be actively painful to get through and this didn't really make me feel that. This is much more like staring at beige drywall for 43 minutes; yeah, it's boring but did you really expect it to be anything else?

I'm feeling a 2 overall.

I mean I would absolutely lose my mind if I had to stare at a beige wall for 43 minutes.

Yeah, this is kinda my take. I sound like I am defending them but only in the sense that they aren't complete garbage. The only thing about The Eagles that offend my sensibilities has more to do with their overall popularity than their actual music. Its hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that The Eagles are more popular than Michael Jackson or The Beatles. It just doesn't compute in my head.

Their greatest hits is. I think that speaks more to the general lack of taste of the masses.

there is one thing worst than the eagles. That Don Henley solo thing from the 80s, Boys of Summer. That’s one super successful musical turd. It’s a damn floater too. No matter how hard you flush it just never goes away.
Not gonna lie, I would rather listen to Don Henley or Glen Frey solo 80s records than Eagles albums.

I am not gonna defend that take from a critical perspective but I likes what I likes.

I will defend that Joe Walsh’s But Seriously Folks… is better than any Eagles album.
