Do I have to?

I've actually never listened to this. I was done with them after Blood Sugar Sex Magic. I like the craziness of the early stuff and thought they started to be less so after BSSM. I do quite like I'm With You and The Getaway. None of the singles I heard in between did anything for me. Unlimited Love was forgettable and I have not listed to the one with the awful cover that followed. I'll report back.

Surprisingly didn't hate it. I'm not gonna buy it, but it wasn't offensive. I could go the rest of my life without hearing Get on Top and Californication ever again though. Clearly, they had stepped firmly into their elder classic rock statesman role at this point.

Elton John -
Madman Across the Water

One of his finest moments. Kicking off with the all time singer/songwriter classics "Tiny Dancer" and "Levon" is wonderful. The title cut is never given enough love (so it seems) and the last two tracks are some of my favorites in his discography. Elton's singing is great throughout the record.

Personal highlights: "Tiny Dancer," "Madman Across the Water," "Rotten Peaches"
Rating: 3.5/5 [Great]

Ugh, I'm really behind with summaries.

I was getting ready to say this wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, then Get on Top started.
It's so bad. "Right On Time" is probably even worse.

Pound for pound, probably my favorite Elton record.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds -
Ghosteen

One of my favorites from 2019, and yet I still left it out of my top10. This is a revealing, vulnerable, introspective album that came from a musical mind with little to no ego. A work of profound tenderness and emotional rawness.
Although I can't give it a 5 yet, I think it very well could be in time.

Personal highlights: "Spinning Song," "Waiting For You," "Galleon Ship," "Fireflies," but I mean...do I have to pick favorites?
Rating: 4.5/5 [Outstanding]

If there is one Nick Cave record I would own, it would be this one.

Well this starts off as noodly progressive rock, which is exactly what I expected it to be. Sure @Joe Mac hates it. I quite like it and based on the few songs I know by Yes, assume I will like this. Prog Rock was not something I explored until very recently (beyond Pink Floyd, Rush, and a very cursory exploration into early Genesis because I love Gabriel so much.) I could see myself falling down this rabbit hole.

Jethro Tull - Aqualung

First time listening. Upon the very first song, I can see why this album has detractors; I am among the detractors.
This is prog rock with zero teeth. Floundering hard rock songs with a handful of folky interludes. Although not terribly offensive, I don't think I found a single song to stand out in the bunch. I'm close to filing this under SteelyDanCore.

Personal highlights: heh, I just wanted this to be over after "Mother Goose."
Rating: 1.5/5 [Bad]

Day 69 - ...been caught slipping!

Day 0069.jpeg

I actually listened to 90% of this last week when it came up, but never got back to it until today and then started from the beginning again. One of the things I've enjoyed about this project and this forum, in general, is that it's helping correct some of my blind spots when it comes to classic punk. Before drawing this, I'd only known Germs by reputation and due to Pat Smear playing with Nirvana in their later days. This was my first (and second) time listening and I loved it. Took a bit of time to get accustomed to Darby Crash's vocals but the music kept me riveted enough to keep my interest in the meanwhile - the bass sound throughout, in particular. Definitely see myself revisiting this one! 4/5

[edit: revisiting, not resisting. Stupid autocork!]
