The Blue Note Thread

His live at the lighthouse album is also amazing and needs a reissue. I mean look at this album art…

I generally am not into old school guitar jazz, or Grant Green's 60's BN for that matter, but when he really went electric into the funk, things got amazing. Live at Lighthouse is so desperately in need of a quality reissue, way more than the stream of early 60's straight/MOR dates.

Live at the lighthouse might be my favorite album of his. I need to listen to more of his later albums though!

Thankfully I have the VMP version but curious to compare them. I think I still have the reversed labels copy as well.
yea--i have the VMP as well. Just kinda interesting if it's true--VMP recently said that BN had taken all of the titles in the Anthology box off of future reissue lists for awhile.

i think the rumor is going around since Harley recently did a youtube interview showcasing some of his favorite albums and shared that one along with a wink wink.

Schizophrenia was the album that avoided me the longest. Several times I was either outbid on ebay last minute, arrived to a shop too late, and even had one in my basket and was sold before I input my card details. Such a nightmare but finally got a copy.

A TP treatment of it would be good but Night Dreamer is the one that I reallllllly want a copy of. That one has shot up in value lately which is annoying because its fantastic.

I really want Juju and Night Dreamer from the Disc Union series (both are mono) but they are way beyond what i would ever spend on a record. I do have this copy of Night Dreamer that's pretty clean and agree that the album really needs another quality reissue:

I have them both. You are not missing much. They are two track folds, with some eq tweaking by RVG. I recall chatting with one of the producers of the series for Disk Union, who confirmed that they absolutely were cut directly from the mono masters, but also expressed his regret that he could not persuade to not cut the bass as is often done to accomodate Japanese construction and living spaces. So in that sense, they were never intended for North American consumption.

I’ll take them off your hands if you want 😉

Took delivery today of a rare eBay purchase that was both fairly priced (if not better than that by today’s Discogs standards) and accurately described. Sleeve is still in shrink and vinyl plays beautifully, like VG+++ due to very sporadic slight noise on Side 1; Side 2 is M. It’s identical to this 1966 mono w VAN GELDER stamp and no Playstylite ears, except that mine has “Division of Liberty Records” labels, so probably was later in the pressing cycle. Currently there is no Discogs entry for my version, but I may add one.

It was $55 delivered. I wasn’t looking for mono, but this hit the right buttons on price/quality and is my first copy of this gem. It’s my 4th title w Woody Shaw, and I‘m looking forward to increasing that number.

My ubiquitous "the latest tone poet is my favourite" post. This time it is 2 records. Harold Vick and Bobby Hutcherson arrived on Saturday and have cleaned and played both. Though the prices on the Tone Poets keep creeping up, they are excellent sounding pressings.

While the Harold Vick is a great record, I definitely give the nod to Bobby. Every record of his is amazing

I popped over to the Blue Note pop-up here in London after work today which coincides with the London Jazz Festival. Joel Ross was supposed to be there at 4:30 for 30mins and I knew I was going to miss that but the guy running the pop-up said he would ask him to sign a record for me. Well, as it turned out Joel's soundcheck took longer than expected so he was at the shop at the exact same time that I was! I was the only customer there and he signed his latest release and his previous one for me. I also picked up the fancy gold pressing of Immanuel Wilkins' latest record, and even got a tote bag and some stickers thrown in for free!

It was another great setup, with a decent amount of records and merch. They were playing a special preview of the upcoming Donald Byrd Live release which sounded great, and the bar across from the shop was selling limited-edition BN beers. Heres a few pics including Joel singing a big canvas (which they get the musicians to add to each year the pop up is on).

I'm really excited for this one.
Holy smokes, what a group! Are the 2 LPs really that much now?
