Dammit here I was thinking my pre-order list was going to get smaller in the new year.

Combustication already has a press. It’s a little expensive now. I need to get The Dropper. I could got for some of those Gramavision albums (Friday Afternoon…).
Yeah, from what I've read, that pressing of Combust isnt the best. Believe it's similar to the 75 series, good mastering but shitty pressing plant (Rainbo or URP).
Prettty sure BN has redone a few albums that were pressed in the past and rereleased them as BN80, Classics, or TPs.

Empyrean and Heavy Soul!!!!!!! LETS GO

Now that I look at Discogs, here is a list of the lousy 75th Anniversary pressings that they have rereleased as BN80s, Classics, or Tone Poets. Probably not an exhaustive list either.

Monk – Genius of Modern Music

Coltrane – Blue Train

Sonny Clark – Cool Struttin

Cannonball – Somethin’ Else

Blakey – Moanin’

Mobley – Soul Station

Jimmy Smith – Chicken Shack

Andrew Hill – Point of Departure

H. Silver – Song for My Father

Dexter Gordon – Go

Madlib – Shades of Blue

Herbie Hancock – The Prisoner

Wayne Shorter – Speak No Evil

Joe Henderson – State of the Tenor

Joe Henderson – Page One

Hubbard – Ready for Freddie

Grant Green – Idle Moments

Herbie – Empyrean Isles

Dexter Gordon – One Flight Up

Lee Morgan – Cornbread

Wayne Shorter – Adam’s Apple

McCoy Tyner – The Real McCoy

i honestly might get nearly every release this year....some absolute fire goin on here.
I have a similar inclination to get all of these Classic Reissues but this raises a question for this thread: Assuming you keep just one copy of a release, under what circumstances do you a replace another version in your collection with a Classic reissue?

My quick thoughts:

1) If your current copy is a Scorpio, a BN 75th, or a DMM from the 1980s, you should replace it.
2) But what about the 1970s reissues?
3) What about an OG pressing that's not in great condition?

Yea I feel like a poser with my Uniclo shirt of the album cover and no album.
So true! They did a shirt for Andrew Hill's Judgment! this year that looked pretty cool. I was tempted when I saw it, but couldn't bring myself to buy it because not only do I not own a copy, but I'd never even heard the album.

since they are so affordable on sale, i usually pick them up anyway even if I have a 70s reissue or an OG not in great condition. the few of these I won't pick up are ones i have MMJ/AP/Classic Records reissues of.

Same, pretty much. But I will happily ditch an AP 45 BN, and a MM 45 as 33 is just so much better. I probably wouldnt swap for a MM33 though.

In general, I will trade in most OG, Japanese or later reissues for a Classic or TP. Although an OG can have some charm, none are really, really mint and overall I find the sonic advantages of good modern mastering to overcome the benefits of a warm, fresh tape with a fair dose of compression/limiting and dynamic range compromises.
