don't see these very often!

I've googled this but you might know it offhand. Can you plug in a usb with files (flac and dsd) and browse them from the app and play them?

Good question! I’ll try to have a look later. I bought a cheap SSD for mine to put inside the box and just transferred stuff over my network onto it and that worked well. Haven’t tried plugging in an external drive. The software on it is a bit clunky though as a warning!

Oh! That's even better. Thank you! No need to research. This is exactly what I'm looking for.

Yeah, I want to go usb out to external dac. I want to just try it out. I don't want to go full expensive streamer solution yet.
I really like mine. Small footprint (plastic body so not the nicest build compared to some of my other equipment). And somewhat modular in that you could just use it as a streamer/end point if you decide to go the Roon route, can use internal or external DAC. Pretty sure it does airplay and stuff too but I don't tend to use airplay anymore since I have Roon.

I just want something that I can put files on inside the box. I lost that when my hifiberry broke and I miss it. I use my computer as a server but then it has to be booted up too. I mostly just want a new toy. I don't need any of it. I have two great DACs
if the UI/software on it doesn't annoy you, this may be a good fit. That's really my only gripe with it. You can connect Qobuz to it from what I remember + see your library inside the box's harddrive. I can't remember if you need to rescan the library every once in awhile through the app when you add files...don't think you can control playback outside of using their app either...I'll try to fire up my app again soon and let ya know.

I think the many of the Nodes let you use an external DAC now via USB out. Not sure about if there's a harddrive in those or if you can add one but their OS looks much better.

Thanks Mike! I was thinking about the eversolo A6, but it's really more than I need.

Screens are cool and all but if I’m streaming, most of the time I’m running around the house not really sitting in the listening chair. Even then, it would be way across the room and really tiny. I think BluOS is great for streaming and I believe you can set it up to a hard drive as a music server if you want but I don’t know about hard drive capabilities in an actual node.

Iirc it's an external hard drive. I want to put in an ssd or flash drive.

Where the screen on it comes in handy is when using it to control apps rather than as a visual aid with it being a touchscreen and an android machine. If you’re an album listener like me then picking an album at the screen and then zooming around for 35 minutes plus isn’t teally an imposition. You can also control it form the eversolo app and the screen just be a display.

IRC bluesound do another model with a hard drive in it. It’s more spendy that the standard node.

Edit: Yes, they do, it’s the vault 2i.
