The February Record Spin Challenge - It's All Connected, Maaaannnnn

5. Play 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon with the next pick- find some way in 6 steps or less to connect the musicians involved in today’s album with those on yesterday’s.

Warren Haynes got his first job playing guitar for David Allen Coe.

David Allen Coe was encouraged to hire Warren by Dickie Betts.

Dickie Betts was in The Allman Brothers.

Allen Woody met Warren after he joined ABB upon Dickie's departure.

Allen Woody loved The Beatles.

Gov't Mule often played 'She Said She Said' live.

The Beatles - Revolver

9. Play an album that is from the same year as yesterday’s album.

Tracking my connections thus far: Howard Jones --> Drive~By Truckers --> Kraftwerk --> David Bowie --> Muppets --> Debbie Gibson --> Bob Dylan --> Mike Ness
Cheating at Solitaire was released in 1999. This excellent compilation was also released that year.

Os Mutantes ~ Everything Is Possible!

6. Play something from the same record label as yesterday, but by a different artist.

Sleater-Kinney - One Beat

Postal Service's album came from Sub Pop, and I'm an older millennial with a long history of listening to indie rock, so I had a lot to pick from for this one.

9. Play an album that is from the same year as yesterday’s album. (1973)

Ok, not an album, it's a 45, but it's just too perfect as today marks the 50th anniversary of the show in Palo Alto at the Roscoe Maples Pavilion where Eyes of the World made its debut.

Grateful Dead - Eyes of the World / Weather Report pt 1

7. Play an album with a cover that somehow reminds you of yesterday’s album.

Dinosaur Jr. - Sweep it into Space

Since One Beat's cover is some kind of abstract messy painting, I thought I'd keep it going with another album with an abstract messy painting.

9. Play an album that is from the same year as yesterday’s album.
Day 8 - Bill Bruford - Feels Good to Me - 1978
Day 9 - Blue Oyster Cult - Some Enchanted Evening - 1978

What a great year for releases...and I seem to have a ton of them. I reached for The Cars debut, but settled on this because I haven't spun it in awhile.

2009 Truth and Soul present Walk On By a Tribute to Black Moses featuring El Michals Affair - what else would you expect from the year 2009?!? I love this record! Picked it up at a show where they opened for and were the backing band for Lee Fields!

Day 08. Play an album that mixes the genre of yesterday’s album with some other style of music.

Us3 - Hand On The Torch

I always enjoyed music but it wasn’t until 1993 that a 12 year old me really fell in love with music. I received my first boombox with a CD player the past Christmas and things really took off from there. I would say 1993 was probably one of the most important years in developing my musical palette at least until I went off off to college with Napster and a CD burner in 2000 and my record collection kinda backs that claim in that I had A LOT of records from 93 to choose from. I decided to go with the Pumpkin today for the simple fact that it’s been a while since I last spun it.

'93 for me too! Game changer year, big time. I didn't get my CD player until Christmas of that hear, but the importance of music and the stuff that blew my mind was definitely a journey up until that point. I mean, I'd always had tapes and loved music, but '93 was next level.

I was a big fan of Disco Duck and Kung-Fu Fighting when I was 6 and then Private Eye when I was 9. The importance of those songs in my musical journey cannot be neglected. Little Turbo spun those 45's incessantly. There may or may not be a relation to the fact that I'm the only person that liked Howard The Duck at the time.
