PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love (1995)

In 1995, my parents used to let me take a bus with my friends to the mall where I’d spend the whole time at Sam Goody listening to all the featured albums on the listening stations. I vividly remember hearing this one for the first time, it’s that good

11. Play an album that does something very different with an instrument used on yesterday’s album.

Mogwai - Come On Die Young

De La Soul's key instrument was the sampler, and the spoken word samples used on this album have a very, very different effect (especially the sample of Iggy Pop talking about punk rock on the opening track).

Bobby McFerrin – Simple Pleasures

Paul Robeson was well known for, among other things, his bass-baritone voice. Bobby McFerrin is also very known for his voice which, with the assistance of overdubbing, is the only instrument used to perform this entire album.

12. Play an album that was not as popular as yesterday’s pick.
Goldcard - Goldcard

After Pond split, one of the guys (clearly the one that did the cello-like tremulous sounds with his guitar as it’s all over this record) created Goldcard, which from what I can tell was less popular than Pond. Still a really interesting listen

Sarah Neufeld - Detritus

Mogwai may not be mainstream popular, and not as well-known as Arcade Fire, which Sarah Neufeld was a member of, but they're definitely better-known than Neufeld's solo work.

PXL_20230213_011149338.MP.jpgHoly Fuck - look I kind of painted myself in a corner with Do Make Say Think yesterday, they are not exactly a household name but hey this band would have a tougher time becoming a household name with a name like Holy Fuck!
