The 'I Did a Thing' Thread

Back in April, I saw this contest a few days before the entry period closed and spent many hours studying that mural. I even went through every Beggars artist/release listed on Discogs to determine which ones had been represented in that art piece.

I may have received an email this week informing me that I won a thing or 25.

I was planning to do a no-buy September, and still plan to for the rest of the month, but semi-local shop I quite like added a Blowout section to their website and do free shipping within province on orders over $150 before tax. There happened to be a lot of stuff I'd been wanting awhile and there is some tension at home presently, so instead of engaging in more self-destructive behaviour or eating, I just ordered a bunch of records...

The Ronnie Boykins wasn't on sale, but I've had it in my cart waiting on $115.01 worth of other items 🤣

10 brand new records, shipped for $173 after taxes feels like a steal compared to so many other orders I've placed!

Way better than self destructive behavior! Now only 28 days to go!!

I have a tendency to avoid sleep more often than not because of all the things I want to read and listen to (thanks ADHD!!) This often leads to me falling asleep on the couch or at the table where my laptop lives. Which annoys my wife, but is generally harmless. Last night, however, I was playing around with my Discogs cart to find if an ideal shipping threshold was available from a Japanese seller... I woke up to learn I'd pulled the trigger on a pair of singles totalling under $8 for $23 shipping 😳 😂

Oops.

I also managed to open tabs for every site in my Bookmarks folder! 🤣🤣

I did not do a thing because the wife was with me and wouldn't let me. The only one that tempted me was a signed Grateful Dead that had Jerry and Pigpen on it, but it was a fleeting temptation as it was $2500.
The cooler head prevailed!

I don't think I'd ever go for something like that, but if I won Powerball maybe. These kinds of purchases are only for those who have too much money or too little common sense. Even drunk I don't think I'd ever bite.

Maybe $5? But typically no, never. It pisses me off how much some try to charge for that.
Honestly, a signature means much more to me getting it done in person. That said, I "won" this item through a fundraising auction for WXPN radio out of Philly, and yes, I paid a premium . It's a guitar signed by the members of The National. Then Covid hit and they wouldn't ship it, so I had to wait at least 6-7 months until they let me drive to the offices for curbside pick up.

That's awesome! ♥️🔥♥️🔥

Depends on the signature and what it's on really. There's a massive gap between something really unique and showpiecey or sentimental and like...a signed CD booklet passed down in a line of 5000 CD booklets. I dropped something like $40 on a lyrics sheet to Killer signed by Phoebe which I don't regret and in general will pay a premium but it's variable

I agree. If it's something I can showcase then I see it differently than something that is just going to sit in a box. And I wish more bands did the lyric sheets. If they aren't going to sign the jacket at least give me something cool like that.
