Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Greatest Hits

I am not a big “Greatest Hits” guy, Tom Petty albums are chocked full of hits regardless if they charted or not. That being said, $2 for a greatest hit cassette that contains the exceptional non-album single, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” seemed like a worthwhile investment.
 
Day 8

Taylor Swift - 1989
Lets not beat around the bush, The Grammys have made many mistakes and this winning over Kendrick was one of the biggest. Play an album that should have won or been nominated for AOTY but wasnt

Lorde - Melodrama

This was the year where Bruno Mars' 24K Magic was awarded the title for AotY at the Grammys. This album was nominated for the same award and inexplicably lost (and perhaps behind a few other candidates in the voting).
One of the greatest breakup records of the '10s, one of the best art pop records of the 10s, and a stunning achievement at 20 years of age.
 
Day 6
Bruno Mars – 24K Magic
There have only ever been 2 years in which no white men were nominated for AOTY and those were the 2018 and 1999 Grammys. Play an album by an artist who isnt a white male

Frank Ocean - Channel Orange

I started taking AotY under consideration around the time I started college ('11). I initially thought of this one then as the best album of 2012 when I transferred to a different university after my freshman year. It appears that Channel Orange is more of a generational thing on N&G, but it still is one of my favorites from the last decade.
However, years later I've settled on Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city as my favorite from 2012.
 
Day 10, Pt. 1 & 2: Sgt. Pepper & RAM
Play an Electronic Concept Album

Com Truise - Iteration

Iteration is the (supposedly) final album in the “Com Truise” saga which tells the story of a space traveller, a synthetic astronaut named Com Truise and his escape from an oppressed planet so he can be with his alien lover.
 
Day 10
  • The Beatles – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
    • This is commonly called the first concept albums (although it really isnt), play another concept album
No better way to kick off a Friday morning than with an post-apocalyptic prog rock album pressed on "Vomit Splatter".

Edited to add: Note to self, next time remember to turn this down in the background when your kids high school teacher calls you.

Nina Simone – Pastel Blues

Way more deserving than Sinatra's September of My Years but not even nominated!
