The National

Well my copy from Cherry Tree has now actually started moving. It says it’s due by Tuesday, but I’d be surprised if it took that long.

I have had two ship but no movement.
My CT w/ Weird Goodbyes flexi has been sitting around since last week, finally "on the way". My Spotify green is label created. No word on BrooklynVegan red. No clue if I will ever receive the Magnolia turquoise pressing - yet they keep sending me coupons for more purchases.

I've seen some people have received theirs, I know someone whose local gave him the red one today. I am not happy right now.
I was supposed to attend the Bang and Olufsen listening party tonight, but I called to ask about it, just did not seem worth driving in to the city, finding parking and listening to it played while I peruse the store for audio equipment that I can't afford. If I don't hear about the Brooklyn red tomorrow, I may also cancel and buy it at my local along with the regular black.

Update: Supposed to arrive on Friday. I saw that people who ordered from Bullmoose got copies today, you'd think that CT would get it to us first.

At least two record shops in Paris are already selling the new National. I'll give a call to the closer from where I live to see if they have it too.

Yeah my CT is also due for Tuesday. Was hoping to wait for the record to listen to the album since we got such early shipping notices, but no way I'm going to not stream it over the weekend now.

Pitchfork hasn't given them a BNM since TWFM.

I just read through this article (Premature Evaluation: The National 'First Two Pages Of Frankenstein') and some comments below the article. It seems that people who are casual National fans won't like it. Some people were saying, paraphrasing: "you could hear the decline in SWB, or even some songs on TWFM, also going back as far as some of the lesser tracks on High Violet." Like.... wtf? But there's probably some redeeming qualities for bigger fans of the band.

I've tempered my expectations severely so if it's a 7/10 album I'll be happy. I still cannot get over how terrible the album artwork is and I think that will always be an issue for it.

I don’t think the National have much to offer critics at this point. They’re not new, they haven’t fallen off and released a comeback record, they didn’t release a record where Matt does a really obnoxious vocal affect over brutalist post-hardcore art punk. :-P

The album is really good. I think the distinguishing magic of it is its tight focus and craftsmanship and the lyrical/meta themes on living through depression more than it is the usual introduction of a new National texture. I think that might cause this to be even more of a slow grower for some critics and fans who see a lot of familiarity or lack of “energy” in the album.

I think this is very well said. Not sure why I bother with the reviews...this has been a loooooooong week.

I haven't read the review yet, but I love SWB, so I cannot take these comments seriously.

I hope the masses hate it! That makes tix to their shows easier to get!!! 😉

welp...seems the era of The National as critical darlings is coming to a close. oooof. luckily critics aren't fans (technically) but still kinda sucks.

I don't need a critic to tell me how to feel. I like tons of albums that only get reviewed by Trigger at Saving Country Music. I like what I like. The National will always be one of my favorite bands even if they never come out with another High Violet or Trouble Will Find Me. Critics are jackasses.

My latest update:

The long sleeve lyric tee, spotify green should be delivered tomorrow via USPS, along with the CT w/ Weird Goodbyes flexi via UPS. Red indie from Brooklyn Vegan has no estimated delivery date yet (It's coming from Ambler, PA, so shouldn't take too long) Still nothing on Magnolia turquoise.
(I think that fanatics order is a Knicks tee that husband ordered!)

ETA: Just got another shipping notification which I think may be the turquoise.
