My CT w/ Weird Goodbyes flexi has been sitting around since last week, finally "on the way". My Spotify green is label created. No word on BrooklynVegan red. No clue if I will ever receive the Magnolia turquoise pressing - yet they keep sending me coupons for more purchases.I have had two ship but no movement.
Also apparently the album has leaked, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet.
Yeah my CT is also due for Tuesday. Was hoping to wait for the record to listen to the album since we got such early shipping notices, but no way I'm going to not stream it over the weekend now.Well my copy from Cherry Tree has now actually started moving. It says it’s due by Tuesday, but I’d be surprised if it took that long.
Eh, just Pitchfork. 5/5 from NME, and Rolling Stone seems to like it.welp...seems the era of The National as critical darlings is coming to a close. oooof. luckily critics aren't fans (technically) but still kinda sucks.
I think this is very well said. Not sure why I bother with the reviews...this has been a loooooooong week.I don’t think the National have much to offer critics at this point. They’re not new, they haven’t fallen off and released a comeback record, they didn’t release a record where Matt does a really obnoxious vocal affect over brutalist post-hardcore art punk.
The album is really good. I think the distinguishing magic of it is its tight focus and craftsmanship and the lyrical/meta themes on living through depression more than it is the usual introduction of a new National texture. I think that might cause this to be even more of a slow grower for some critics and fans who see a lot of familiarity or lack of “energy” in the album.
I haven't read the review yet, but I love SWB, so I cannot take these comments seriously.Pitchfork hasn't given them a BNM since TWFM.
Some people were saying, paraphrasing: "you could hear the decline in SWB, or even some songs on TWFM, also going back as far as some of the lesser tracks on High Violet." Like.... wtf?
I know Matt is a big IDLES fan so I need this to happen at some pointthey didn’t release a record where Matt does a really obnoxious vocal affect over brutalist post-hardcore art punk.
On a tangential note, Matt is guest dj-ing on Sirius XMU tonight at 6pm, playing his fave bands.I know Matt is a big IDLES fan so I need this to happen at some point
