The National

It looks like the covers are mostly the bonus tracks? I recognize some but not all of them.
Yea--looks like that 2nd disc is a mix of some potentially cool covers (Velvet Underground, Morphine, The Doors). Not sure what Big Bird is?

Some potentially cool covers I would be totally ok with streaming------right? I will totally be ok not owning the deluxe edition of an album that I've never heard from a guy who has never made a solo record----right???

Well there are 3 singles out so far ya could listen to! I like the singles so far, especially the title track.

Sorry, Matthew. But I’m not playing a clever game of FOMO/marketing upselling on this one. The songs are...fine...but I can stream them well enough without needing them on vinyl for $60 for the full set of songs or $170 for a kind of unimaginative bundle. I say this as a National die-hard. This is priced to grab as much cash as possible...which is thankfully a bit rare for the National and it’s members, who have had a pretty fair pricing system for their CT club and variants in the past. You’ll get a decent chunk of my $ when the next National record drops.

I count El Vy as a solo record. And as I mentioned the other day, it rules. And I really like the three songs released from this so far.

Also I would listen to Matt read the phone book.

Phew... I was really looking forward to that album preorder but that's usury. Definitely no quick-shooting from my side; gonna think about this and if the Grey Vinyl is gone by then, so be it.

Is it that much crazier priced than CT? CT volume 1 was $50 and was 1LP. I didn’t get the Merch and stuff with my copy. I think the bundle + test press was crazy price on this for sure. And I wasn’t HAPPY paying $50 for the 2xLP deluxe on this but it’s sadly not that far off base from what a lot of people are charging these days for a 2xLP plus art book. Gorillaz just put their new record up for $80 for the 2xLP with all the songs on it.

Did you see this guy?

I recently sold my sealed copy of Frank Oceans Blond for a silly amount. I spent a good hour yesterday stressing because it should have arrived to the buyer a few days back but the tracking was showing it as in limbo 'arriving to destination country'. After I used another tracking site it actually showed up as delivered and signed for. The stress of the whole thing was crazy, I cant imagine that box set being sent without insurance and stuff, crazy!

To be fair though, for a CT membership you do get more than just the vinyl (and related goodies). Granted, most of the benefit beyond that is early ticket access, which doesn’t help much during a pandemic.

But I assume you’re talking about when they put the extra copies of Vol. 1 up after the fact - by which point they were trading substantially higher than $50 on the secondary market.

To me the craziest thing - BY FAR - about that story is that the seller was Matt Cameron’s son. I need to know more about how and why that happened!

I sold my friend's copy of Captain Murphy's Duality on reddit for around $400. I shipped it and a day later the guy said "shit. Paypal still had my old address in it" and it had been sent to the completely wrong destination. I tried getting it re-routed through USPS but it was too late and a few days later it was marked as delivered. The guy ended up having to go to that other location (about a 4 hour round trip train ride away) to knock on someone's door to pick it up. It was really stressful hah

Yea--I got it when they put extra copies back up and it was $50. And yes, it was less than secondary market prices but they were still charging $50 for it. I've never had issues getting tickets for The National so that extra bonus is silly, especially since as you said we're in a pandemic now.

I still think the price on this was a lot, but I caved and bought it haha.

You know what, I was so so close to having the same situation. The guy asked for it to be sent to a specific address but when he paid through Paypal it showed as a different one. I told him that I had to send it to the address on the Paypal as I wouldn't be covered otherwise. Luckily the paypal address was his brothers house in a different city, so he ended up saying he will just get it when he next visits.

Lesson learnt, always update your contact info people!!

My lesson learned was that now I ALWAYS double-check the persons address. I didn't realize about PayPal only being covered if its delivered to the address in the profile but that makes sense. But I'm always hesitant to sell anything that's really expensive these days. I have sold a few things around the $200 mark since the pandemic started but always make sure to add insurance to it and sometimes will add priority shipping for free.

The other thing is the massive fees involved. Lucky for me the buyer just went through Paypal Goods (which was still a hefty fee to be fair) rather than Discogs or ebay, but even still the shipping etc wasn't cheap.

Yea--I sold UGK Underground Kingz this summer for $190 but it was through discogs. I noticed that the guy lived 10 minutes away from me though and asked if he wanted to just pick it up. Luckily he had a car so he just drove up and I handed the album to him through the window like a sketchy deal. But it saved me on shipping and the stress involved with that. I pack records well (or so I'd like to think) but never know what could happen.

I'm pretty sure that proceeds from the sale of the copies of the CT Vol 1 went to the crew members just as proceeds from merch did, so it was money well spent.

I've been a CT member from the very day they announced it. The ticket presales worked well for me and I was able to go to a soundcheck in Florida which was an amazing experience.

Oh yea--not complaining about it at all really. I'm hoping they post extra copies of Vol 2 as well since I missed out on that one. I don't know that the proceeds went to the crew (I ordered it back before pandemic I think but could be wrong since the last 6 months have been a blur) but I was happy to give the money to the band directly instead of buying it from flippers.
