The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Didn't Billy Duffy from The Cult give Johnny Marr his first guitar? They were classmates at a Manchester school. She Sells Sanctuary could've easily been a Smith's song.

They were certainly close friends as kids, and still now I think, and starting to learn instruments and forming bands as teenagers in and around Wythenshaw at the same time. I didn’t know the guitar story.

I don’t think this is too much of a hot take. I think there are lots of bands like The Sniffs that you had to be there, were very much of a specific time and place. I put Black Flag in that group. Black Flag was a huge impact on me, but if I heard them now for the first time I would be scratching my head wondering what this garbage was.
Kind of the way I’ve always felt about Black Flag. Their influence is much larger than their talent. Although Keith and Rollins did go on to do good work later.

I love Spiritualized but I never dug too deep into the Spacemen 3 catalog besides a few albums. This one definitely has some elements of that "Spiritualized" sound that I like, but I never really get into the songs that just seem to be random talking for lyrics. I prefer the songs that sound like a drugged out hymn.

I felt that way about Black Flag when I first listened back in my early Twenties, but over the past year or three I've been getting pretty heavily into them. In fact, I just met up with a buddy for coffee to pick this up from him:

I think as I listen to the stuff they influenced, it does make me appreciate them more. I’m in no hurry to grab their stuff though.

Why do we still do this?

Guys I am pretty sure I will be up to update tonight but you may need to expect me to not post the new album till the next morning until we sync up again. Usually takes about a week after we change here.
