The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Yeah, I liked this better than Spiritialized on first listen. It is kind of like grungy meditation music or music for angry yoga. It’s very droney which is where the sleepy time comes from for me. It’s not bad I’m just not real sure what would compel Me to play this (maybe a night of ketamine?)
Personally I have always ranked Sp3 above any other of their projects (Sonic Boom/Spectrum and Spiritualized). I love those first three Spacemen 3 albums. Give me drone or give me death

This album isn't bad...but it's not particularly interesting to me either.
Some of the production is fantastic in an old school sort of way. It does sound a bit dated especially considering it came out in 1991. It has an 80’s “whicky-whicky” sound. Something that Dr Dre and The Rza would pretty much wipe off the face of the rap landscape over the next couple years.

I still enjoy it but it’s definitely of its time.

I think that's my problem with most 90's rap albums. I didn't really listen to it at the time (besides the big music videos that made it to MTV). So it all sounds kind of dated to me.

I’m gonna give it another listen this evening. I really enjoyed it. I always liked Guru’s voice and flow and Premiere is on of the all time greats.

It depends to me. G-Funk, Boom Bap production sounds timeless so does much of what the Beastie Boys, Q-Tip, and Prince Paul were doing at the time. Outside of that I would agree lots of early 90s rap feels very dated.

We might need a dedicated manics thread at some point! I also really love Know Your Enemy, especially the revisited version.
I actually really like the original version and am sad that it's not on streaming services here in the US. Unfortunately, neither is Postcards.

My main gripe with the revisited version is that they replaced "So Why So Sad" with the Avalanches remix.

Yes, the revisited one made a huge difference. The original always felt kinda bitty and disconnected with little flow and like it needed carving down. Turns out it actually needed expanding to a double with two radically different discs!

I like that one although, I’m not sure I’d say a lot. I mean I’ve liked all of them. Not a one has been a waste of time. I don’t always like the shiny new version as much as others though.

This is My Truth, Lifeblood and Resistance Is Future are the ones I struggle with out of their catalogue although I enjoyed Lifeblood more than I remembered when I heard the recent reissue.
