The cover of this album has four stages of the moon, and this album has four movements to replicate those stages. This is a fantastic post rock album coming out of Guangzhou, China, using one of my favorite instruments, the guqin. Fans of instrumental post rock should give their albums a listen.
I've played a bunch of different records for this challenge theme over the months, as recently I've tried to prioritize buying records from local artists. Don't think I've gone in this direction before, though.
Just a handful of blocks from my apartment, there's a music store called Long & McQuade. In the '60s (and earlier), the building was a restaurant called the Concord Tavern that hosted live music. One of their most famous guests were a rambunctious southern singer named Ronnie Hawkins and his primarily southern Ontarian backing band, the Hawks, who later spun off on their own and became perhaps the greatest Canadian group ever, the Band. It would probably be more appropriate to play their last proper studio album, Northern Lights - Southern Cross, as its closer, "Rags & Bones", was inspired by the sights and sounds of Robbie Robertson's childhood in the Annex neighbourhood, but this will also do.
Day 13 - Friday 13th
Ive picked up a few bargains from local charity warehouse before they caught on to popularity of vinyl. Leonard Cohen, Whitney Housten, Sade, The Pogues all for 50p
But this one was a nice find, because the vinyl had not a crackle or pop....and still 50p
