pearl jam - let me sleep (christmas time)/ramblings

not only does this record fit the category, it fits the season! this is pearl jam’s very first fan club holiday single from 1991, and supposedly only 1500 were made, and so the going rate for one has been $100+ for a long time now. i was not in the fan club in 1991 - i was 13 and unaware - so how did i get this? back in 2006 i traveled to san diego and l.a. to see the pearl jam shows there. on an off day, i went to amoeba records in hollywood just to check it out. i was going through the 7” section and lo and behold this was sitting in there, and was priced at $15. $15! i don’t know if someone put it there for a fan like me to find when the band was in town, or if it had just gone unnoticed for a long time. but with this being the hardest single to nab, getting it for $15 was surely lucky. of course, this also meant i then had to collect the rest of the singles since the hardest one was now out of the way. it took a few years, but i got there.

Day 13 - lucky

Orchestre Poly-Rythmo - Adja

I've been missing out on this incredible 45 by Poly-Rythmo for years (both sides are utter 🔥 which isn't normally the case as v funky tracks are backed with slower numbers). It often goes for well over $100. I suddenly found it on Discogs a few weeks ago for a fraction of the price. It's pretty crackly but the music comes through fine and I'm very excited to play it.

Day 14: Soundtrack Day!!!

Yes...I love soundtracks. I had a hard time deciding which to play. But going with the first that I remember owning. I had this on cassette before I owned a CD player. Probably purchased in the late 80's. I think it was the first soundtrack I bought myself.

v/a - d.c. cab

listening to irene cara’s ‘the dream’ just now as i was posting this, i thought ‘wow, this part sounds just like ‘neverending story’.’ sure enough, both were written by georgio moroder.

anyway, despite its 17% rotten tomatoes approval rating, this is classic 80s film fare. love it.

Day 13 - Lucky 13 (I was born on a 13 so I never considered it unlucky.)

Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years - MOVLP392

Several years ago I wandered into Wazoo Records in Ann Arbor, looked on the display wall and there was this beauty. I immediately grabbed it, prepared to pay (almost) whatever. But it was reasonably priced, and in great shape; if not NM, definitely VG+. I told the proprietor I had been looking for this for quite awhile and he said: "I just put that up there 15 minutes ago, lucky you came in when you did."

I have read that the OG has a little more presence, this pressing is a little quiet and lacking some bass but overall I am happy I got it. This record is top 3 Waits for me, so I'm sure I'll buy any reissue that comes up, or an OG if I come across it.

Play the soundtrack/Score to a movie, TV show, book...

@LeeVing, video game soundtracks are fair game here I take it? I don't have any soundtracks for films/TV shows on vinyl.
My favorite PS1 game. Brings back memories hearing the VR training music.
