The Return of the Challenge Thread - December 2019

I found an OG copy that was VG at best at a local store and couldn't make myself pull the trigger for 26 bucks. It looks like there has been a reissue, maybe I'll try to find that. I haven't heard this but I love both Burrell and Christmas music. As I type this I'm wondering if I should just go get it.
It's a really great album with top notch versions. The reissue seems to be an 80s one so doubt it's anything compared with the OG (it's on Bandcamp too but seems only to be digital). I paid about $25 and seems a reasonable price to me...

Day 18: They did know some good music.

I remember that my mom had some really old/beat to hell Beatles and The Monkees albums still at my grandparents house when we were kids. I could have one of these Monkees albums (Headquarters) that was hers, but I can't remember.

My dad had 2 prerecorded albums on cassette when I was a kid - The Who - Tommy and Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited. - I never saw or heard him play these, though.

When I got into buying music they had me tape my CD's over to cassette so they could listen to stuff in their car. This is one of those. My mom still had it in her last car that had a cassette player.

Pink Floyd ‎– A Collection Of Great Dance Songs
Columbia ‎– PC 37680, 1981

Looks like a Pitman stamper on side A, a Carrollton stamper on side B.

Thanks. It's good to know the cost at the store I hit was fair. I didn't take the time to hit Discogs while in there to reference it. Now I wonder if I have time for a trip to the D before Xmas, and if it's still there.

d’angelo and the vanguard - black messiah

his albums are deservedly well regarded, but there just isn’t anyone on this dude’s level in a live setting.

Day 20 - You gotta see them live.
Play a record from a band you have seen live...or want to see live.

Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want

I saw them at the start of this month. So much energy...crowd surfing, Lex's microphone shenanegans, and deafing volume. I've never been to an industrial show before; I almost suffered hearing damage. So good, though!

If you have checked out the Upcoming/Recent Shows thread, you know I love to go see live shows. So this one is tough to choose from all the great shows. I recommend seeing any band live.

Tash Sultana ‎– Flow State

Tash is fantastic. Tash is a one person force of nature. They were on tour earlier this year and I drove eight hours to see Tash play. Incredible performance.

I almost posted my Tash Sultana signed record for the "Paid How Much?" day. $50 for the signed record.

The last show we attended (a huge shout out to @JonnyH for hooking us up), we gotta see Built To Spill perform Keep It Like A Secret in it’s entirety. It was a great show. We even gotta fantastic cover of “Benny & The Jets” during the encore.

Day 20: Live

N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton

I’ve never been to a live show actually, mostly because I don’t deal well in crowded social settings like that. With that said, I wanted to see Ice Cube when he came to K-Days last year but I somehow completely forgot about it until a friend told me about it afterwards.
