Vinyl Junkies came on and started praising the Anthology box set. Some light hearted jokes about him being a VMP plant were made but it was mostly in good fun. A couple people brought up some semi-controversial stuff VJ had published before. VJ started personally attacking these people, calling them douchebags and botches and threatening physical violence. Mods kept coming in to try and mediate, everyone wanted to bury the hatchet, and he just kept coming back with more attacks and personal insults. People became less quick to try and drop the issue, mods came in to mediate again, so on and so forth. The drama just kept flairing up and forumers became less and less forgiving so the mods locked it down

This was also after 100+ pages of the thread which had also descended into a lot of anger of a) the cost of Anthology, b) whether Anthology was a sign of new, more 'premium product' VMP, c) annoyance of the way Anthology announcement was rolled out and d) research into the new COO of VMP and whether he was good for the company.

It was already a pretty hostile thread before VJ walked in and blew things up further.

It wasn’t too bad though most of us were fairly civil while complaining

They definitely didn't do themselves any favours by STARTING with a BlueNote Anthology right off the hop. If you're going to cut your teeth in terms of Deluxe Box Sets, BlueNote should really be the finish line not the starting point. Maybe start with SubPop or something...
