Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Yes, I emailed Blue Note (their store unfortunately because I couldn't find another place to email), I hope they do chime in

Yea I looked as well, I thought there would at least be a contact for press enquiries!

I emailed VMP tho, just to see if there's any chance of a reprint of the two covers so far. I think reprinting them would be a good opportunity for VMP to build bridges with us customers and a great gesture from them. No reply yet but fingers crossed.

Would you guys feel any differently about this had they proactively notified you of what you'd be receiving? Or is it just an unacceptable product to you, period?

A heads up would have been nice, but the CD credits is still pretty unacceptable

Also, I love this response on FB:

"With this issue only emerging yesterday, as the fortunate few that received their copy chimed in with their first impressions, including the cover flaw, no doubt VMP is huddling and we'll see a more comprehensive response both in terms of the issue and to what extent they're willing to address it.

Given the exclusivity of the Anthology, and the precedent they're setting for subsequent Anthologies, I certainly hope that they'll lean towards a re-press of the cover, and ship it out separately, as timing it for inclusion with the third bundle would take some real magic.

No doubt, they're now undertaking a thorough review of the rest of the series to confirm they're true to the originals."

If they had proactively notified us as in making it clear before the purchase? Or if they had, at some point between the sale and now let us know what was up? I think a lot of the same people would have had the same issues with it and so would I, but it would not be as bad because it would have shown a level of transparency and ownership of the issue and that could have gone a long way towards making this a smoother discussion.

Who was this response from? VMP is referred to in the 3rd person. A mere fan? Do they know any of this is true? (sounds like something Vinyl Junkies would say to be honest)

looks like because of the snow storm I my poorly thought Dexter sleeve until tomorrow despite hitting Denver last night

so is the Horace label correct, with the mono or does it say stereo

"No doubt", huh.

Aside from the Dexter Calling sleeve having the wrong catalogue number and CD credits on the back, it looks like it was a bad scan or they just blew up the CD artwork in photoshop to fit specs for an album cover as the text on the cover isn't even crisp. The thickness of the jacket is nice but honestly, the front cover looks like a bootleg. And with CJ saying on the facebook group that they are going to try to get a digital copy of the original back/Leonard Feather liner notes from Blue Note today, it seems like they didn't even attempt to get the original artwork from them and settled for the CD artwork. As others said, why not just buy and scan in the artwork from the AP pressing that has the right artwork? If AP can get the artwork at high quality not that long ago, why didn't VMP get it? It just seems really lazy. And they edited out some of the CD artwork on the back so it's not like they didn't realize that the album art was incorrect. It even has the wrong mastering credits on the back...

I know it's not the end of the world, but when you are paying a premium price, one expects a premium product. Music Matters is worth the money because of the great quality all around. It seems as if this problem could have been avoided altogether but was done out of laziness on VMP's part.

The records themselves sound amazing. But it's the little things that separate a label that knows what it's doing from those trying to fake their way around just to charge more money...

This is pretty sad. I'll add my voice to those that are disappointed. This was clearly marketed as a premium product and looking at the Blue Note market, it's clear there is a niche there. I'm a bit frustrated on a few points:
1) My understanding is that the International orders were supposed to be shipped before domestic so we all got them around the same time. DHL, now UPS, has no delivery date for me in Canada and that's annoying because it is not what was promised.
2) Knowing that this market has demands for high quality premium products, did they not think we would notice the jacket looking like garbage with the wrong back? I mean come on, that's pretty bad. It definitely has me thinking I may regret this purchase and would be extremely hesitant to purchase another new offering from them.

I hope they redeem themselves but based on what I've seen in the past month... it seems unlikely...

I am going to be honest and wait until I actually get my package in the mail before I send VMP an email, though it’s not like the cover will magically change in transit.

I have started writing it already and will cc it to both Blue Note and Universal Music (BNs parent company). I am going to try the old info email address trick and see if that works.

Man, I hate this for y’all, but I knew there was no way in hell that they were gonna be able to pull this off without borking it up.
Honestly though, the sound quality is amazing. The box looks awesome. I think the idea is cool despite the high price point. The podcast is a good listen. So it's not a total loss. It is, as usual, a communication and transparency issue with VMP. Using the CD cover makes no sense to me on any level outside of laziness or rushing. I work in graphic design and recreating the back album cover would take somebody a few hours at most. And if AP can get the original cover not that long ago and produce a high quality sleeve, then so can VMP. It wouldn't have cost more money to print the correct cover, just took more work on the upfront which is not that expensive.

@CCKrone I'm not sure you will entirely regret the purchase after listening to the sound quality. They are super nice. Just a bummer they didn't pay attention to all of the details.

I came across this one too - contact.ume@umusic.com on this site:

They also suggest Cem Kurosman at Blue Note Records' email is plain old cem.kurosman@umusic.com so who knows, might be able to stick don.was@umusic.com on there too!

What constantly gets me with VMP is this seemingly unquenchable desire by them to keep all the details of their releases secret until the last possible second, then to cry ignorance when people finally receive their product and it's not what was promised. If they would just actually release the details and images of their reissues PRIOR to 3 DAMN DAYS before shipping some of this crap might be avoided. At the very least people could make an informed decision and while there would certainly still be complaints at least those that were really bothered by it could avoid the purchase and thusly VMP could avoid a good portion of the backlash. I mean if they insist on making these boneheaded errors over and over again and proceed to feign ignorance each time it successively happens than at the very least releasing the details early would help to quell the justifiable anger.

There's a quote from one of my favorite TV shows "Justified" that goes like this.

"If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole."

Raylan Givens

There are many times I think about this quote and how VMP views it's customers as a whole... and I think how apt it feels to me in relation. If the consumer base freaks out over some tiny thing VMP did, maybe it's on us. But when this consistently happens every single month... guess what VMP, we're not the "assholes", it's you.
