That's what's so baffling about it. I'm not even one of those Blue Note experts. I am, however, an attention to detail vinyl nerd. But, if I'm sitting in a meeting at VMP and someone says we're doing a reissue of a record on vinyl from one of the most prestigious labels in the world and, by the way, we're gonna use the CD art work. "We're doing what?!?!" I'd be interrupting that meeting immediately and making it clear that we're going to regret this.
It still might have not been ideal, but at least let us know beforehand that it's not the exact reproductions of the art work. Would have softened the blow a bit.
I got in just before it sold out and after really going back and forth with myself whether it was a smart purchase. In the end, I thought, it's Blue Note. It's their first attempt at a premium product. Their reputation is on the line here. No way they're not going to mull over every little detail, because let's be honest, their "experience" marketing meant to me, every-little-detail, and get it perfect.
This mistake or, only choice, as seems is their defense, just sullies the whole thing right out of the gate. It's not the end of the world, but it is a friggin' major bummer!
