Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Sixth. He’s the sixth Doctor....

Only joking. I know what you mean. OK here goes....

1st - Troughton (AMAZING)
2nd - Baker (AMAZING)
3rd - Pertwee (AMAZING)

Top 3 are very close. Could argue all are the best

4th - Hartnell
5th - David Tennant
6th - Christopher Eccleston
7th - Matt Smith

These were all great Doctors just not GOAT.

8th - Colin Baker
9th - Peter Davison
10th - Sylvester McCoy
11th - Peter Capaldi (Very disappointing was hoping for more)
12th - Paul McGann

I can’t rate Jodie Whittaker yet. But I would like to ask her 2 questions.

Do you like being Dr Who?

Do you like being a woman?

Don't get me wrong, I love Tennant, but Matt Smith is my fave of the 21st century doctors. Surprised to see Eccleston ahead of Smith!

Actually, I prefer this discussion now.

Michelle Gomez is the second best master. I loved her. The best thing about Capaldi’s disappointing disappointing run. Delgado was the best by a country mile. Dude was evil looking and the perfect balance to Pertwee’s kindly uncle. Then Anthony Ainley. Then that rotting skeleton thing in the deadly assassin. Then Derek Jacobi. Then John Simm finally Eric Roberts. John Simm was awful. Rotting skeleton thing beats him heads down.

Agreed! Fully.

Those $5 copies are AAA and sound great (when they're in good condition)! ;)

I would LOVE to have an AAA release of the original Chic mixes of Diana, though.

Oh yeah, it sounds great. I’ve just found that usually as long as the tape wasn’t worn if it sounded good in the 70s or early 80s it can probably sound even greater with a less compressed modern master. Essentially what I’m saying is I’d like to have an audiophile copy alongside my domestic OG.

tbh i kinda wish they didn't have all the extra stuff.. no need for QRP or all analogue or the facebook group..

mostly i want albums i know i like at a decent price with good analysis put in

like if they did sub pop or kranky and pressed at Gz (probably color but i dunno) and had a very good liner booksheet and the podcast... i'd buy it pretty easily.. it would be like 180 dollars or so (if you ignore 180g it will be cheaper), and i get albums i might love with some nice supplementary material

To be honest the only thing that I think is important is the QRP and, to a lesser extent, the AAA. Dump the podcast, book and box and save on the stuff we don’t need, spend on the stuff we do need, what we can hear.

Exactly, All that gimmicky stuff is just padding to puff it all out & make the package seem more enticing. Its complete BS. Just do the goddamn vinyl and do it well

I'd imagine there's a portion who do want the podcast, book and box as they want a deeper dive that just buying a bunch of records, like myself. That was kind of the point of these Anthologies. These at least have the appearance that this was done as more than just a cash grab and more to highlight the artists, labels, and the times these records came up in.

Fair, but fwiw if I'm getting a box set I want a fuckin' box
It obviously depends on the person, I welcome the box. It's all the other shiznet they add as bulletpoints to make it seem like your getting a bunch of cool stuff when your really not

Fair, but fwiw if I'm getting a box set I want a fuckin' box (but also a box shouldn't affect the cost significantly when we're talking about a 6-8 album set)

The box is the thing I’d hate most about this whole idea, if it wasn’t for the execution and the price.

To each his own I guess then. I'm their target audience as I'm not normally going to go out of my way to pick up some Motown records. Just like I never before went out of my way to pick up Blue Note records. But I'm thankful they moved them onto my radar. And I welcome a curated set to get me to look at the Motown era more closely.

Then call it a bundle. I'm just being an ass about people who sell "box sets" that have no box (though I do enjoy a good box...I'm also that weirdo who still has the packaging from most electronics I've bought)

That was one of the biggest areas of getting rid of things I had when doing this Marie Kondo decluttering. I had an old iMac box out in my storage shed. Like just any day I was going to need to box the iMac back up.

Oh I love a box too when it makes sense. I also have all my electronics boxes. I don’t like 8 albums by 8 different artists gathered in a box, I want to file the supremes under s, I want to file Diana Ross under r, etc etc etc.
