Vinyl Me Please Anthology

OMG I knowwwwww! That annoys me too! Especially when it’s so tight!

Vinyl pressing plants and companies need to take pride in the vinyl the press! Like be proud of the vinyl you make and house in a great protective inner sleeve!

That’s one thing that doesn’t bother me because regardless of the inner they give me once I wash the record it’s in a sleeve city inner and I send the included one is off for recycling. I do keep printed ones though. I’m not s complete lunatic!

But those generic paper sleeves cause scratches on the records a lot of the time when pulling out the vinyl from them!

I also will put the vinyl in new sleeve city diskeeper sleeves, but it’s great to just have new vinyl placed in quality inner sleeves so then the vinyl doesn’t get scratched in the first place.

Printed inner sleeve are cool! I do like them, but I don’t care for them, that’s why I bin them. It’s like how you wouldn’t care for all that VMP Anthology stuff - Booklet/notes, box etc. I feel the same way with printed inner sleeves/download codes. I just like a nice pressing and a good looking pressing is a bonus as I think it’s pretty when colourful vinyl that matches the album art is played! 🤗

A Gatefold is always very nice too! And a nice quality jacket is great too!

But they have artwork and the lyrics and I do care about boxes just not the random Anthology one and please stop talking about how you throw all that nice stuff out again or I’ll get all uncomfortable and anxious...

I think I’m just very young if you know what I mean in terms of me throwing things out. Not saying you’re old, but I think the younger generation in general tend to dispose things quicker/embrace minimalism more.

Because for me......I can just go on genius and read the lyrics. I don’t need them in front of me hard copy. It’s just whatever 🤷‍♂️

Like a pay everything on my phone now, not on my card. Nahh mean!!! The less, the better! 💁‍♂️

But you collect the least convient, transportable and space saving music medium possible?

Your reasons make no sense, no sense at all, I’m more confused now than ever!

I transfer my records from paper inners to rice paper sleeves. If the inner is printed, I just keep it in the sleeve. It's not like that takes much more space.

I basically keep anything that won't warp the record right in the sleeve (like extra photos, posters, stencils, prints etc). I remove thicker things like the Classics booklets and store those in a little box. Though I haven't looked at any of the Classics booklets in a long time.around your marrow

Hahaha, going to debunk that theory as I’m 25 and I don’t throw any of that stuff out! I want all my printed inners unless it’s an undesirable (ie ugly and ripped) old advert. But partially that could be bias of my field (design) which makes me appreciate the whole package. Even if they’re not beautiful, it just feels a bit like ripping out a boring chapter of a book. With you on the poly sleeves, and Apple Pay though.

Oh my gosh.....I realise how dumb I look now 😳

I’m a bit confused too as well because I look silly now! Haha 😅

I can’t debate back because I’ll just look hypocritical! Like it’s so true. I’m talking about being minimal yet I’m collecting vinyl 😂🤦‍♂️

I was convinced I liked minimalism in my 20s when I couldn’t afford stuff. Now I realise I like stuff, but still like furniture with clean lines haha! I call it a mid century modern mess...

But I’ll tell you one thing @Joe Mac

Reading the lyrics on your printed inner sleeve does not make them better than reading them on Genius. There’s no difference!

However, listening to your music play on vinyl is MUCH better than listening to it on MP3 via Spotify!

Honestly, vinyl is an experience and the physicality is all part of that experience. Also reading anything off paper is much more pleasurable than off a screen. And yes, I binned my kindle and have more books than I have space for too...

mmmmm couldn’t agree more. It really is the whole experience. And I feel like it would definitely feel better reading the lyrics from a paper/hard-copy than on the screen!

But reading them on the printed inner or booklet is part of the experience. The artist went through the trouble of putting the lyrics together, in that particular way, with that particular look, the commas or other punctuation there with a purpose, like poetry. You can see mistakes, typos, how the artist meant for the lyric to go one way but recorded it a bit differently. It’s beautiful and moving. You can’t see that on genius. There’s no context on those sites.

I spend enough of my day staring at a screen that if I can do something without one I will. That's also why I can't get into e-readers.

People confuse asceticism with minimalism. The former is the denial of gratification, but the latter *is* the gratification (and is usually a luxury that the poor paradoxically can't afford).

This is true. Architecturally minimalism is probably the most expensive style going because hiding utilities, services and the various things we use on a daily basis costs an absolute fortune. It tends more to be an illusion of a clean and uncluttered space rather than a lack of stuff.

That said I’ll take the slight inaccuracy when I’m making fun of myself!
