Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Like here's my thing. I'm not going to slag anyone for lacking experience, I mean you have to start somewhere and the only thing that can get you experience, is time. But where I have a problem is when inexperienced people instead of learning from their mistakes MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE OVER AND OVER AND OVER OH MY GOD WHY

I kinda have a perfect analogy for this.. if I decide I want to play baseball, the first team I try out for shouldn't be the Toronto Blue Jays.

Likewise, I had a friend who came to me years ago with a brilliant idea that he wanted help with. A complete boxset of all the music from The Wire. I told him I thought it was a good idea but that he may want to build up to that.. you know, gain some experience before he tackles a project of that magnitude. All of a sudden I had no idea what I was talking about and blah blah.. well, here we are, 5 years later and afaik, there's been no The Wire boxset nor has he done anything else.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is.. if I'm a member of VMP, I'd acknowledge that our collective experience in this industry is extremely limited and I'd try to tackle projects that reflect our ability/experience to handle. Doing a Blue Note anthology as your first big project is the equivalent to trying out for the Major League All Star team for your first at-bat (to circle back to my first analogy)

They're gonna be redoing the Dexter Calling album cover, right? Because the Queen thing was less of a fuck up and less copies to reprint and still happened, didn't it?

By the way, is anyone else really annoyed to see the Vinyl Junkies guy (Jeremy Ron) show up all over the FB group the last couple days? The other day he had at least 3 posts that were just him sharing a Vinyl Junkies post that linked back to his own page. I called him out a bit and he immediately claimed I was attacking him (all I had done was list all the shit he has done and suggest it was a mistake for VMP to associate with him). Then he tried to claim I was breaking Facebook rules by attacking him. VMP deleted the whole conversation but I have most of it screen shotted. Oh, and he kept going back to his "I'm just here to talk about music" bullshit, too. Disgusting.
Hahaha Fuck that guy and the Vinyl Junkies group. Dude booted me years ago for either mentioning a price or asking what someone paid.

$64,000 question - has anyone put this on discogs yet?

I normally would have tried to add them, but my shipment isn't due until next week :(
Holiday weekend in the states, too, so no deliveries on Monday either. :((

If it manages to get to my local USPS by 8am someday this week, then I should get it that day, but until then I can only watch the chaos while eating popcorn and drinking bourbon.

But, it seems there are not any discogs entries, yet. So I'm hoping one of the 999 other people will add it by then ;)

but seriously if this didn't cost 230-280 dollars (40-50 bucks a record). people wouldn't care as much.

i've been saying since the very beginning this is SUPER overpriced and they need to fix their prices if they are gonna make this many (admittedly one is fairly small in my mind) mistakes

The box set is on discogs:

remember that people actually spent 230 dollars on this

if it didn't sell out in 3 hours it would have been for 280 dollars...

if they ever do another anthology (which they are apparently doing soon) we NEED a price cut and probably a raise in the number of copies

IMO, it's not super overpriced based on the quality of the records themselves. Tone Poets are $30-35. MM are $40-$80. These are priced at $38 each (plus one is a 2XLP). Not sure where you got $40-$50 from...nobody paid $280 for this.

The sound quality on these are incredible and had the packaging not been fucked up on one of the albums, nobody would be complaining at the cost. Saying it is "SUPER overpriced" is just not true based on the market value of records, especially audiophile quality Blue Note albums.

the 40 dollars is based on light estimation.. i knew it was more around the 38 dollar range, but that is super close to 40 dollars. the 50 is just from what one person told me once in the old forum

its technically 38-47 dollars per album (i did round up that last number because it was technically it was 46.6 repeating). but that is still a massive dent in a wallet

Have MM or tone poets gotten the cover wrong? One could argue that Tone Poets screwed up by not telling us Evans and Henderson were not Gatefold, but even then, the details on the covers and labels are right.

That is their competition. This is the standard they are being held to and it is a very similar price point.
