Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I think I figured out what the records in the Stax box will be. I think this is pretty similar to the one others have posted, but I believe the Otis Redding is set in stone.

Booker T - Soul Dressing
Sam + Dave - Hold On I'm Coming
Otis Redding - The Soul Album
Bar-Kays - Soul Finger
Eddie Floyd - Never Found A Girl
Johnnie Taylor - Raw Blues
Albert King - Lovejoy
William Bell - Phases of Reality

The chronology and lack of recent reissues fits all of them. Personally I will be very happy if this is it.
Ditto happiness here. I've been after a mono Booker T Soul Dressing for months now. I had a cheap mono that was too noisy and picked up a stereo copy. Just not the same. I record all my LPs and bounced it down from a stereo to a compressed mono mix, but it still didn't hold a candle to the original mono. That's when I discovered the true power of a good mono mix.

Soul Finger is also incredible!

For me, I think I’m most excited about Soul Finger, The Soul Album, & (hopefully) Phases of Reality; though I’m sure the whole box will be great.

I’m so happy it looks like we will be getting Phases Of Reality as the William Bell album! 🙌

I’m so excited for this Anthology Boxset to come! It’s going to be a really nice start to the decade! 😇

yeah I’m really excited for this set. Considering all the issues with VMP and fulfillment recently, Anthology has become my favorite thing they’re doing right now.

Anyone know what month William Bell’s Wow was released in 1971? That may work too, and I think I like it better...
Yeah, 'Wow' would work there too. There is also another Johnnie Taylor album that would fit, I forget the name, but it is great as well.

The first 4 I think are pretty much locks, and I feel pretty good about that Eddie Floyd being a lock as well - as far as I can tell, that album has never been reissued, and its pretty clear that Storf loves things like that.

I prefer Phases Of Reality more to Wow! But i would be happy with Wow as well! 🙂

Phases Of Reality just has that Curtis Mayfield Superfly funky, spy, sensual sound I love! 🕵️‍♂️

Phases Of Reality is more sexy, and feels more updated. I really hope we get it! 🤞

I assume everybody received their emails about Anthology? Mine was in my junk folder.

So we receive the whole box set at once with the records in secrecy sleeves?

Who will actually wait to open these sleeves along with the weekly unboxing videos & podcasts? I’ve got a feeling I’ll just want to open & play them all as soon as they arrive; though having said that, I know I’ll be very busy in January & probably won’t have time to be playing 8 new records all at once, so maybe it will be more fun to discover along with everybody else.

Is this how the previous Anthologies were revealed?

So instead of staggering the release over months it's all at once?? More signs pointing to VMP folding under. Why would they send everything at once if they will be sticking around longer. They must be trying to offload all of the stock because it's a sunk cost for them now.

They did this for the last two Anthologies too. It was a huge improvement because Logistically the multiple shipments for Blue Note was a mess especially when sticking to that timeline

Apparently this is just how they’ve been doing the Anthologies.

It seems to me that people are currently seeing everything VMP do as further proof of the companies imminent demise.

I, for one, am optimistic. :-)

Lots of fire and brimstone in these parts but this ain't it. They send them all at once because they had issues with the Blue Note shipments. People who did the Women of Motown Anthology really seemed pleased with the all at once method. You can follow the roll out structure or open them all at once.

I plan on following the rollout, I liked having them spaced out during the Blue Note Anthology.

My big takeaway from that email was that there will be a "private Facebook group." I thought they did away with FB after Blue Note, but this is my first Anthology so what do I know. I do know that I have zero interest in joining FB just for this. For those that have done this before, what if anything will I be missing?

Yeah this is just how they do Anthology now since Motown. I waited and opened along with them during Motown and really enjoyed it, but ripped it all opened at once with Ghostly--and wish I had waited. So with Stax, I'll take my time.

The Blue Note group was sort of..... well, it was active, but mostly just people posting pictures of their records. Which is more or less what Facebook is for. They tried this weird forum software for Motown but it was totally dead, and they didn't do jack shit for Ghostly, so I guess they're back to Facebook. I'm happy there's any sort of community, even if it's on Facebook. I'm skeptical that it'll be worth joining for though.

Thanks for your input; I’m leaning towards opening two records a week along with the rest of the group.

The Blue Note facebook group was good at first, there were a couple people posting really educational articles and writeups on the material. It degraded into complaints and a couple guys posting the same pictures of their records over and over, and even posting pictures of CDs but trying to pass them off as records. It got weird.

As long as the rollout is smooth the group should be pretty good. We shall see.

Facebook is just mass psychosis housed in a website. It's best to be avoided at all costs.

I only really use fb for music discovery. It you curate friends and pages just based upon that, it can be a great resource. Although the BN fb group was anything but ideal, I kinda missed it after the complete ghost town that was the Motown group. Terrible interface also probably drove many folks away. Hopefully the STAX cats will make it cool this time round.

Yeah I think that's the key to Facebook/Twitter/whatever-- you have to put in the work to make it work for you, otherwise Facebook just feeds you the same shit they think'll keep you clicking and liking. The Facebook group might be fine, it really all depends on who shows up and show decides to be active or not.
